Z28 slower than a 2016 1LE

I was very surprised the 2016 1LE was faster than the Z28. Barely faster, but still.......

What surprised me were a few things:
Tires: Trofeo 60 treadware vs Goodyear ?? treadware
Brakes: CCB vs steel
Weight: 1LE around 123lbs less

Z28 Lap: 1.37:82

2016 1LE Lap: 1.37:78

It's amazing that the 1LE is faster around Laguna Seca. Chevy is doing things right!

The 1LE was nearly 4 seconds slower on VIR. The same driver drove both cars so that's a constant, but there are certainly other factors that could affect the time. The same could be said for the lap time on Laguna Seca.

It's great to see American cars doing so well (and that includes the GT350R) against the European comp.

Dont forget 1 lap is 1 lap. 1LE wont be able to sustain that pace for more than a few laps. In a 20 / 30 min session he Z will be well ahead.

Randy Pobst had mentioned the brake fade towards the end as well.

Very surprising, I'd love to see them tested back to back with the same driver though. I'd also like to know if their Z28 time was on fresh tires, seems I read something about their longterm Z28 picking up something crazy like 2 seconds at Chuckwalla after they put on fresh tires. It's not crazy to think it could've been the same car with worn out tires.

Regardless, awesome showing for the 1LE.

It's called progress. Now imagine what times the new Z/28 would do in your favourite 1 lap races.

It's called cold tires, the Z/28 need 2 laps to get the tires up to temp.

I guess the new Camaro platform is just that good. For a car with less power, steel brakes, and inferior handling to get around any track faster than the Z/28, while it makes absolutely no sense to me, shows just how good the overall car is. As mentioned, just imagine what the new ZL1 or possibly new Z/28 will be capable of.

I still love my car though.

I would not say the 1le is faster 2/10 s of a second around Mazda Laguna seca is an anomaly . Around vir z28 is 3 seconds faster and after 1 lap 1les breaks fade ... Z28 would be consistent lap after lap !

It is a 2017... the OP just accidentally listed it as 2016.

Nothing to do with cold tires. They do multiple laps and take the best of them.

6th gen is a huge leap forward in handling and chassis. The new zl1 and new z28 should be even more impressive.

Hell put some decent pads and trofeos on the 1le and it would be amazing and probably drop another few seconds.

one lap wonder, in a real race the brakes on the Z would eat the 1LE alive, enabling the driver to enter each corner faster braking deeper and accelerating out faster.

At the end of the day Its all about the driver. Unfortunately the 1LE looks like any other 6th gen. IMHO
