Seat Covers on Leather Seats....
In light of some recent discussions concerning leather wear/maintenance, I'm considering some seat covers.
I just wonder which type of material will be best to cover the leather. I've never covered new leather seats, and I don't want to 'scuff' or prematurely wear the leather by having anything even slightly abrasive against it. Velour sounds like a bad idea with the scratchy fabric, and vinyl I'm not sure about, think it would look cheap. I'm thinking of neoprene. Who has covered leather seats? What material? Which manufacturer did you buy from and why? Any problems? TIA |

Why spend a few hundred on neoprene when you could buy a whole like new oem set for under 600. As for some other cover. Most covers wouldn't be any rougher than a pair of jeans are.

Personally, I think seat covers look terrible.
I have the "leather", had my car 2 years with 25,000 miles and my seats look perfect with no signs of scrapes or wear. I would leave your seats the way they are, a few years down the road if the seats are damaged, you could always get them recovered. The driver's seat will show the most wear, you could probably get that recovered for a couple hundred. Or, just throw a towel on the driver seat to prevent wear and scratching then you can remove it anytime you want. JMO Keep in mind, the only "leather" on our cars is the center seating surface and where your back touches on the two front seats. The rest of the front seats and the entire backseat is vinyl.

I am asking primarily about buying seat covers to protect the OEM seats, which are considered to be leather, albeit only a portion of the seats. Do you have seat covers? |

Recently with a special edition Vette owner who doesn't sit on the leather...I do agree with the others. I bought my car to use it....but...sometimes it's good to protect the seats...anyway they had seat towels. I found them on ebay and other places they're called seat Armour adn they are thick towels with logos etc on them and slip over the headrest when you want to use them. I'm picking them up for the trunk to use when necessary. A day at the beach for example.

Seat covers are ghetto. Why not put a bra on the front too?

Why not cover them in that clear, sticky plastic that 80 yo grandmothers put on their living room furniture?
Chicks dig that. |

http://www.seatcoversunlimited.com or http://www.carscover.com They have really nice ones that are made out of a material that Wet Suits are made out of, and you can get them where the sides and back of them are black and the center part is a color of your choice (be nice to match that to your Camaro's paint color). To agree with what some people say in here about not liking seat covers...Yes, if you go to a retail store and buy a generic set for $30.00, they look horrible. But at each site I mentioned above you have to tell them the exact car (Year, Make, Model, etc...) that you are buying them for, and they are not poor quality seat covers either. I have been thinking about getting a set, just to add some Yellow to my interior. I'm definitely going to one of those sites when I am ready.

Iggee save my seats from the kids a few times already. Mine is a DD, so it gets dirty.

Thanks for the replies, even the smartassey ones!
I would never consider universal fit seat covers. I'm talking about custom fit neoprenes. I've never bought any; however, and appreciate the input from those that can see the benefit. I'll check out those websites, thanks for the linky. |
