No-Lift Shift
This article from thegmsource on the HHR SS with the no-lift shift technology got me thinking if this would be standard or even offered on the 'maro.

Well, this is a big benefit for the HHR and Cobalt SS because it keeps the turbos spinning and prevents turbo lag. Since the Camaro probably won't be turbocharged, maybe it wouldn't provide as much benefit. I'm not sure, I'm just throwing out some thoughts there. Considering it is just an engine control software program, they probably could put it on the Camaro without much effort.

Yea this is just turbo based like stov said, Most racers dont let off the gas during shift or braking just to keep the turbo going anyway, so yea its basically just a preprogrammed standard option rev limiter instead of an aftermarket one.

Well, I pretty much do this already in the SS when I race or want to get it way up to speed w/out any hesitation. I basically keep my right foot planted on the gas w/out ever letting up. The left foot just taps the clutch when I shift.
The way I understand it, this algorithm keeps it from redlining. I don't know if I'd like that too much unless I had so much power that it'd redline quicker than it does now in my SS. |

That makes perfect sense. Turbo lag. Gotcha.
But isnt it better even in normal shifting? Even just a lil easier cause you dont have to let off the gas?

My guess is this software will ensure the rpms stay at the optimal level so you don't have to do it by foot. Might make it better?

I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't want this "feature" on my manual car. I love powershifting and think that would take some of the fun out of it. If I could defeat the feature, that would be a different matter altogether.

It does sound like a cool feature, but I'm one of those who does know how and does like to powershift So we'll see. If you can have it as a switch like turning on and off Traction Control that would be cool.

Gotta love this shit!

I guess the feeling is mutual - everyone that wants a 6-spd wants a 6-spd because of powershifting. If we didn't want this we'd buy autos. Me, 6-spd all the way.

well, I hate to admit it - but I've been an automatic tranny snob forever -- it's a proven fact that a properly-tuned engine and auto tranny CAN and will shift faster, and more precisely than any human.
But, with that being said, after driving a C6 Z06 Corvette, my new Camaro WILL be a manual (be that 6-speed, or whatever is offered). So, cheers to me for finally "seeing the light" and moving over to the "dark side." The manual DEFINITELY up's the "fun-factor!" (Yes, I know, I know -- WHY did it take me sooo long??? Short answer -- HORSEPOWER, and TORQUE. The only manuals I'd driven in the past were anemic 4 or 6-bangers -- those were NOT fun)

anyone ever heard of double clutching? lol
ive driven both, and you can flame me all you want about not having a "man pedal" and tho the manny tranny is more fun to bang thru the gears, ill take my built auto with a 3600 stall, manual valve body, shift kit . like 2kz28 said, an auto will shift faster than a manual any day of the week. may be more fun rowing, but when it comes to speed, ill take my auto. plus, autos are real nice at sitting in stop and go traffic. instead of creepin a lil here, and a lil there. lol

Before my truck got totalled I had to double shift it for about 2 months. I just got it so I didn't have to do that horrible shift again and I hope I never have to do it again. -Way to much concentration for me!
