Ceramic coated 2018 ZL1

Just finished ceramic coating my ZL1 and happy with the results. I purchased Gyeon Syncro. This is a consumer grade coating, but can last up to 36 months based on elements. This is not my daily driver, basically sits in the garage.

Some tips:
1. Take your time
2. Remove any paint defects prior to coating
3. Suggest purchasing good micro fibers. I used Gyeon bald micro fibers, I purchased 10 and used 6. One for a initial wipe, the secondary used for final wipe
4. I washed it with Dawn to strip any sealant, wax etc.
5. Wiped it down with Gyeon prep after I dried the car. This essentially verified the car was completely stripped of any sealant or wax.
6. Applied 3 coats of Gyeon MOHS Ceramic coating. This took about 8 hours, giving the product additional time to cure between coatings. Apply in small sections and as they recommend using a “cross hatch” pattern, wiping off after 20 to 30 seconds. This is where I used 2 micro fibers, one for initial wipe, the second to finalize the section. Use reflections or lights to verify the surface reflections are focused and not hazy. If hazy you have to correct possibly using a buffing compound. Gyeon suggests minimally 1 hour between application when using MOHS. The coating will feel like it grabs, not slick yet
7. Applied Gyeon Skin about 10 hours after I finished my last Gyeon MOHS application. They recommend apply this thicker then MOHS, I used all the same steps as above. Immediately after applying Skin the car will be slick! I have used sealants for the last few years and they don’t compare.
8. I let this cure for an additional day in the garage, the car looks like glass.

Glad to see you did it yourself. This is not hard if you just use a little common sense and watch some YouTube videos and look around the web. Amazing to me that people pay such huge money to a detailer to do exactly what you did. Polishing out a new car Is pretty easy, an old car is a lot more work. Nice to see you used gyeon, everything I use of their stuff is excellent.

Great job, it looks amazing. I wish I could go straight to coating my black car is requiring a lot of polishing from dealer abuse.

I would not recommend it paint correction after washing and using Gyeon prep, unless you have to. In that case if it was me I would repeat washing and using Gyeon prep.

In my opinion one of the most important steps to coating a car is prepping the surface. Want to make sure the coating has the best chance to bond with the surface.

The car looks fantastic!

Syncro is Gyeon's best selling coating right now for a reason...it's easy to work with, it's durable, it looks fantastic, and Skin is slick as can be. With the updates they made this year to Mohs, it's much easier for the DIY to work with.

As the original importer of Gyeon into the USA while it was still young, we're quite happy to see how well it has done. But after our initial testing with it, we knew that it would be a big hit.

Congrats on the car and the DIY approach. If you have any questions about the after-care, just let me know.

Thank you all for the kind words.

“Congrats on the car and the DIY approach. If you have any questions about the after-care, just let me know.”

Mr. Cooperider I may take you up on that in the future.

First wash since ceramic coating. I can say it’s almost like the car cleaned itself. So nice to just dry it. Looks and feels like it’s been sealed/waxed.

Best looking car GM makes right now. I like it more than the Vette.
