I thought i read that the exhaust manifold, etc was specifically modified to fit the engine bay of the camaro. If it is truly as easy as ordering a 1LE and then dropping another $13,500 on the engine, then that's a bargin - maybe less than a ZL-1, depending on labor costs. Damn, I am so confused on what to buy. Just glad I have awesome choices... |

Manifolds can be changed but im pretty sure the engine mounts are the same so it should in theory "drop in" As for just the engine - you will need to have it tuned. You will also need to convert it to a wet sump system (Mast Motorsports sell their LS7s already converted). I am sure there are a few other things but yes I would think you could do the swap under 20k. So for about 50k you could have a 427 1LE |

i think it was HOT ROD magazine that did a wet sump conversion to the LS7 and it picked up something like 20hp.

C7's already proven to be about 2-sec/lap quicker around VIR than the old C6 Grand Sport.
Whether the Z/28 will be quicker than a C7 is an interesting debate. Yeah, it's got 55 more horsepower but it's also got about 500-lbs more to carry and it's got worse areo. Once the C7 Z51 is available it would be really interesting to test it against the Z/28. If you're looking for Camaro LS7 info, it's at: http://www.camarohomepage.com/ls7/index.htm

So in the end it's just good conversation. Also need to see gearing and a few other non released tidbits.

C7 fans shouldn't worry too much if the Z/28 performs better because it's likely to cost more.

1le is just as fast as the c6 GS (according to C&D), so that would mean the c7 is 2 seconds faster than the 1le...
And if the Z/28 is 3-4 seconds faster than the zl1, then its probably also going to be faster than the z51

The Vette guys said the z28 will weigh around 3800-3900lbs?! Hhahahaha, my SS weighs is in at 3868 with a blower and half a tank of gas. The new z28 is supposed to be 300lbs lighter so roughly 3500lbs and the same weight as the current 5.0 Mustang.
