Oops; I put regular fuel into my SS

I recently upgraded from a 2LT (v6) to a SS and accidentally put regular fuel in when I filled the tank. I know it won't break the engine, but I seem to remember something from the Camaro5 in 2010-11 forum that someone's car didn't recover and run right when they went back to premium. Anyone hear about a problem like that with the 2016 cars?

I haven't heard of any problems with that. But one time won't kill you; I'd try to run the tank all the way down to like 1 gallon remaining and fill up with 93 again.

Yeah good point; definitely shouldn't be going hard on regular.

The dealership I bought mine from put regular in for the first tank and I pinged pretty bad, but was fine after I filled it up with premium. You could go to Advance and get some octane boost.

I have neither heard nor read of any complaints about the LT1 getting stuck in the low octane table in the ecu and requiring a fuse pull reset like on the LS3. Everyone that has made your mistake reports that when they returned to high octane fuel- everything was good.

Good luck - I think you will be fine.

It won't get stuck. If KR doesn't occur it will reduce the knock learn factor.

Don't put octane boost in it. Just use the tank without getting on it and go back to premium.

Do not add anything to the fuel , do not floor it, just drive it easy and run that regular fuel out and fill with premium

Curious why he should wait until he needs to fill up again before topping it off with 93 or a cat safe 101 to boost the octane average. It would give him a little cushion against knock even thought the ECU will adjust to what the car is burning. Is it just to get all the 87 out of there ASAP?

Just run the tank down the fill. Otherwise it will take a while to get back up to 93.

completely not true. The car will detonate at part throttle low RPM. Put booster in it, drive 5 gallons out fill with 93. don't do it again.

Booster will only raise your octane by about .5 or so. I like someone else's suggestion of buying a couple of gallons of 101 or something if you are going to do anything.
