6L80E issues

Hey guys. Recently my 6L80E transmission has been feeling like it's slipping when shifting from 3-4th gear. (Occasionally 2-3rd gear). It'll blip up about 50-75rpm before it shifts. However it's only occurring from 1750-2900 rpm. I'm not too educated on transmission slipping, but shouldn't it slip more with higher power? It doesn't slip at 3, 4, 5k rpm. The trans has about 50K miles on it with about 650whp. Any knowledge would be helpful. Thanks. - Vis.

My car did the same thing, had the torque converter swapped and it fixed it

Update

So when it doesn't "slip" into 4th gear, the 3rd-4th gear change seems to be the 'hardest'. Shifting into 4th is fairly noticeable and will lurch like a drag transmission shifting. It's a 'neck-breaker' shift. Whereas shifting into 5th is so smooth it's almost unnoticeable. Could this be a tune issue? Or is my trans just giving up? This doesn't seem logical that 4th gear is a hard shift while all others are soft.

I wouldn't think it's the tune but I wouldn't rule it out. I had the exact same symptoms and it turned out my yank converter was pretty sloppy. Do you have the stock converter?

The sad thing is, I got it built. The guy who I got it from claimed the transmission was a "rebuilt stage 3 with a 2800 stall". I don't believe him. To his credit, the OEM wiring harness for the trans is disconnected and is replaced with a new one. However, the car doesn't behave like it has a stall at all. I'm guessing the trans is lightly rebuilt without a stall. It just started doing this after I had it tuned. But I don't understand why my tuner would make the 4th gear shift so rough. I'm guessing it's starting to give out after 7 Dyno pulls in 4th.

Damn that's disappointing. Well, hopefully you can figure this out. Of course it would be cheaper to check and see if it's the tune so I'd try that first, but it sounds to me like a converter issue

Hey Synergy, apologies for not replying. I took it to the tuner and they were talking about line-pressure. They said anything is possible, but first they wanted to adjust the line pressure to be a bit firmer on partial-throttle. The trans still occasionally does it, but the issue seems reduced by around 80%. It doesn't have any issues WOT, so I guess I won't have it disassembled until it starts doing something serious or making noises.

Yeah.. when my 6L80e started slipping gears I just decided to get a new one... I live in a smaller town so the mechanics somehow didn't know what was wrong with the trans.

I was basically forced to do a bunch of research (and i am NOT a mechanical type of guy..) and I found this website https://reman-transmission.com/trans...des/?code=6L80 that does remanufactured 6l80e's and it was 100% easier for me... I just had my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 trans shipped out to tennessee and was able to install it myself after hours and hours of youtubing and foruming hahaha...

I was going to start a new thread but this one will do. In general, are trans issues in our cars rare, not so rare or just about normal? Mine doesn’t slip but clunks on occasion. How robust is this tranny in general? Was it ‘beefed up’ to live in a 400HP+ application when driven like you might expect someone to drive a SS Camaro? Opinions? Experience?

Have you tried resetting the trans adapts?
