I have opted to go with the bell housing alignment method. I have all of the bolts in and started about 2 or 3 threads. I am thinking of doing a Star pattern to tighten the trans to the engine.

I am worried that the spline isn’t lined up right. Or that I measured the new clutch wrong and need to use shims. The instructions Monster gave said to use a micrometer, but I don’t have one. The clutch side was around a 1/16th of an once shorter than the slave fully depressed.

Am I missing something?
When I installed my clutch the plastic alignment tool had enough play that it created an alignment issue from the weight of the disk. If I loosened the pressure plate, pushed on the alignment tool to bottom it out and center it while tightening the pressure plate again it would align much better. Also, make sure there is some lube on the splines.

I would be careful if using the bolts to pull it into place. It could bend the clutch hub. Using the bolts the last eigth or quarter inch is one thing, using it to force alignment is another. You can also try using longer bolts to help align the trans as it is going in while watching the gaps of the trans to engine.

I didn’t put any lube on the spline, I thought I read somewhere not to do that. Oh well too late. I had everything lined up the best I could, after about 7-10 attempts of sliding it in and back out again, adjusting my jacks each time to get alignment right, I finally got it as lined up as I could. My issue was the last 3/4 to 1 inch. No matter how hard I shimmied or pushed the trans wouldn’t go that last inch. Using a camera I could see that the spline was in the shaft. So I just started using the bolts to pull the last inch.

I just tightened all the bolts up, going a few turns each time. Until it was snug. Using a breaker bar I could turn the output shaft, so it must have lined up.

I just hope I didn’t bend the clutch fingers on my way in.

I am plugging everything back up, filling up fluids and seeing what happens. My 2 day project is on day 5. Once again proving any job can be done in a driveway, but just because it can be done, doesn’t mean it should be.

Great, I struggled getting the shaft to line up and in. In the end I got it far enough that I could start some of the bellhousing bolts. Then very carefully I tightened the bolts all the way around while turning the shaft to make sure the splines weren’t caught or anything. When it was fully tightened the shaft spun nicely!

I just finished the 500 mile break-in which was hard to hold back for. There is some chatter, but I also installed a MGW short throw and that is a little noisy too. Clutch works great, shifts smooth and grips amazingly.

In hindsight I would not have done the bronze isolator cup, I caused a lot more work to be done and I don’t know if it made any difference.

I had to take the entire trans into the garage. That took some doing with the car on jackstands. The punch pins were easy with the trans out. The bronze cup is very sturdy and and break.
