Update on my DS from Gulf Coast Driveshaft - Even though the website states it will work with a ZL1 diff, plus I called and was told it was drilled for both SS & ZL1 diffs, it will not work with a ZL1 diff. The bolt holes in the DS flange are 12MM and the bolts for the ZL1 diff flange are M14's. After discovering this I called and was told to just use the smaller bolts with a nut on the backside of the diff flange.. Um, no...

I've looked at drilling the holes out but not sure I want to do that just yet.. Going to call and see if I can return it and also call PST driveshafts and see what their backlog is like.

I ordered a PST driveshaft for my 87 Trans am GTA LS swap project. It took alot of measurements and a little patience, but once I got the driveshaft it was all worth it. The fitment was PERFECT. Balancing was spot on. They actually produced it and shipped it out fairly quickly too, especially for a custom driveshaft.

After thinking through it and making sure the driveshaft fit correctly, I remembered that the DS is centered on pinions from the trans and diff. I decided to drill the holes out on the diff end of the DS to fit 14mm bolts. So me and a buddy created a jig on the drill press to hold the DS and used a pilot bit, then a 9/16 bit to drill the holes out. Went slow and easy and turned out well. Sorry, no pics taken...

Now i'm just waiting for shorter bolts for the DS to diff to arrive which is looking like today, most likely tomorrow.

Its a pretty snug fit especially with the offset diff bushings, but to my amazement the metal shield protecting the gas tank still clears the DS. I was expecting to have to cut/trim it some.

I finished it up last night and took it for a drive just a little while ago. Its very smooth and nothing unusual that I could feel. Pleased thus far.

I spoke with PST and Guof coast today and both were very pleasant, Gulf coast really took their time and went over everything and I honestly and leaning towards them. Both do offer Carbon Fiber options but just are not on their sites at the moment.

Ashen, have you had a chance to take the car out again and run it though different speeds? How are you liking the drive shaft? Notice a difference?

Yes, been on the highway several times now and all good. I cant tell if there is any more noise than before though, doesn’t sound like it to me. Certainly feels more solid and responsive. Happy with it.
