DIY Hardwire Radar

So I got tired of having the phine cord coiled wire hanging from the Valentine ONE near my mirror to the cigarette lighter plug. I decided to hard wire it, figuring there must be a power source up in the pod with the dome light and home link buttons.

First I got my stuff together: Power Probe for testing and cordless soldering iron and the usual wiring stuff.

Pop the white cover off the dome light using something soft to prevent marring the plastic.

Then pull the bulb and that housing can be pulled down. watch the clips and dont break the plastic.

There are two screws to remove under there.

Lower the unit and unplug the wire going to the HOMELINK module.

use a good pair of strippers and a razor blade to strip back some insulation instead of cutting through the wire itself. this is showing the black for ground, i already did the positive on the purple with stripe and taped it up. i like to solder all my connections and tape or heat shrink them, but a good wire tap or crimp connection could be used too.

Now the nice thing with a V1 is it can use a telephone wire for a power cord. But keep in mind the wires are very small gauge and can be tricky to strip properly. run it up behind the mirror into the headliner by unclipign the plastic cover.

i checked the connections and polarity once again to be sure.

reassemble in the reverse order and you are good to go. The only thing i wish was that it was switched power instead of constant because i need to remember to manually turn the radar off if im parking the car for any length of time. i wanted to use a different source but nothing up there was switched power and the dome lights themselves do all sorts of switching polarity and voltage drop things when they fade out. maybe with a relay it could be made to work. that could be next.

visibility is great and NO MORE WIRE dangle...

Hey guys I am having a little trouble. Attempting to hardwire the v1. Went to radioshack and they did not have any fuse taps. The v1 comes with a t tap. I was wondering if anyone went that route. Do you need to use invisicord? Thanks guys.

it pops right off. Just pry at it with a trim removal tool and/or your fingers
