Vibrations from under the front end at 60mph and higher

While highway driving 60 and over, I can feel a bad vibrating under my feet, feels like I'm driving over lots of grooves in the road. Almost like the wheels are losing traction with the road. Anyone experiencing this? It's driving me nuts. I took it on a fresh paved road and same thing, every 20 seconds or so I feel the vibrating from under the car, it lasts about 10-20 seconds.

If you have an automatic, it is possible that you have the dreaded transmission/torque converter shudder that several people are having. Especially since your vibration comes and goes. It feels similar to driving on rough road. Try shifting into manual mode and shift from 8th to 7th and back to 8th. This will fool the car into staying in V8 mode and will greatly reduce the shudder. Won't eliminate the vibration but will reduce it enough to pinpoint the transmission/torque converter as the issue.

yep it feels like I'm driving on a rough road, even when it's freshly paved. It's driving me nuts. Taking it in for service Wednesday.

Then it most likely is a bad torque converter...seems there was a bad batch or something.

I'll suggest that to the service rep when I take it in Wednesday. I know they won't be able to duplicate the issue because they won't let their techs take it on the highway.

Wel the car is at the dealer today and I just called for a status. They said that the wheels needed to be balanced. I don't know about this. The car is 10 months old and I've never hit anything in the roadway to make them go off balance. They want to charge me $ 69.00 for balancing.

Ask for a before and after of the balance results. That way when it doesnt fix it, you take the car back and get your 69.99 back.

It's possible you lost a few weights, but didn't you say this comes and goes at the same speed? If a tire is out of balance that doesn't come and go...

Also, as far as I know dealers should honor a rebalance for the first year or 12,000 or so. I have had a few rebalances early on and never had to pay for it.

But hey, if that fixes it, I would rather pay $69 out of my own pocket then deal with a car going under the knife to have a torque converter replaced.

well that didn't fix anything. Balancing the tires did nothing. Still have the vibrations. Ughhh. Can't these people ever fix anything?

So let me get this right, this vibration you feel only happens over about 60 mph, and it is not constant? In your first post you said it lasts about 10-20 seconds and then goes away for about 20 seconds, correct?

If you told the dealer this exactly, and if they had a brain they should have realized it wasn't a tire balance issue and that wouldn't come and go, and would be constant. From what you describe I think it's the torque converter issue some have had, try searching that and print it out to show the service writer, or maybe find a different dealer.
