One Wheel Burnouts
Why does my car do one wheel burnouts? At the track last week every time I did a burnout in the water box both tires would begin spinning but the left one would stop while the right one continued to spin.
Here's some examples:

Maybe your limited slip isn't working. Clutches? Still ... you had great runs.

I think you would be worried about the flames under your car in the 3rd video. Do you have cutouts?

Did you have traction control completely off? I think it is the mode traction control you had it on. You need to hold the traction button down for seven seconds to disable it completely for a nasty burnout.

Traction control was held down to disable all systems. The traction control as well as stability control systems were completely off.

Do you have line lock?
My guess would be no, and when your jumping on the brakes it's trying to grab the rears. The power is overpowering the right brake and the diff clutches. And by the looks of the sparks its blowing through the clutch too. If your going to be doing burnouts, I'd put line lock on it. Or start the burnout back in the water and roll out spinning the tires. Dumping the clutch on the dry and then jumping on the brakes is murder on the clutch and diff. |

Have you changed your diff fluid?
Perhaps you added too much of the LS additive. |

No idea what that flame is. I never noticed it until you guys pointed it out.
I do not have a line lock on the car, but one is planned in the near future. I had a line lock on both my '99 and '00 Trans Ams and loved it. As far as diff fluid, it hasn't been changed. Still the same diff fluid the car came with from the factory. I still don't know why my car does one wheel burnouts!

My guess is the spark shower is from the clutch. Cars with real strong brakes .... i.e. Brembos, are real tough on the clutch doing a burnout that way.
I think what is happening is your jumping on the brakes hard, and then I can hear the throttle/RPMs going up and down. I'd bet when the power is off a bit for a split second, the left brake grabs, when you get back on it - that brake is stronger than the diff clutches and all the power is now going to the right wheel. Once one brake grabs, all the power is going to be going to the other wheel and it will be easy to overcome the brake power on that side. Then I think the next time your revs and power went down, your right brake tried to grab and tire got sticky, and when you stood back on the power, it blazed the clutch. I think the trick is to start the burnout in the water and stay on the throttle hard with just enough brake pressure to keep it from rolling forward too much. But as soon as you let off the throttle, that's it. If you jump back into the throttle after the tires or brakes have grabbed, it's going to blow through the clutch. When burnouts aren't going so good, most often the cure is - more water and staying on the throttle harder. If your going up and down with the throttle and either the brakes or the tires start to grab, it's going to go wrong from there. |
