Manual vs. Automatic
what are the pros and cons such as hp, speed, fuel management
id get a automatic so it would b easier to focus driving on the road rather than shifting gears. is there a benefit of getting a manual? |

The auto has better stats in every category, except for HP. But the manual is much more fun.

Not true, the ls3 is significantly faster, more fun to drive, and cheaper. Really can't go wrong here...

Manuals are hell-o-fun. But I just cannot shift nearly as good as a well tune automatic.
I'm sure that there are plenty of guys, ang gals, on Camaro5 that can peg the red line in every gear... but I would bet that most folks with manual transmissions are like me. All I know is that A8 in sport mode and competative mode is proving to turn every stop light into a time trial for me. At least til I am close to the end of my warantee and can feel safe super charging. CAI will just have to be good enough til then. |

Commits weekly crime
|
A well driven manual will be faster than an Automatic. Automatics are more consistent for those that aren't good stick drivers. This is always an ongoing thread, of course. Those that drive automatics will say they are the same, but stock for stock, remember that the M6 has more horsepower.
Yes, you can mod an automatic to match the manual, but if you put the same amount of dollars into stock M6 and A6's, I'm pretty sure the M6 will still put out more horsepower. It's all negligible anyways. The differences in times are minor (.1 seconds). The A6 seems to beat a well driven M6 to 60', but the M6 is going to pull in the later part of the quarter mile run. Though I'm starting to do bracket racing, most of my driving is out west here, and I'm more than happy with the torque/horsepower I get when driving 35-70mph on the highways here. Cornering on some of the back road highways is great, and the manual pulls great in 2nd or 3rd gear when I want it to.

I live in cali and I have a stick, traffic really doesnt bother me to much. This is my first manual car and I would never get a sports car in an auto now that I know how fun a stick is.

Both are fun. Daily driver it would be the automatic for me. If it was a weekend car 6 speed for sure.
Auto start with the automatic is kinda cool I must admit. |
