3:91 Gears.
Thoughts on upgrading to this gear set. Did any one do this, and if so is it a good performance upgrade? What’s drivability like? I have the 2010 Camaro SS with the L99. Thanks.

I took the drivetrain off a ZL-1 so I am running 3.73 in the rear and I love it. I would say depends how much power you plan on running, if you stay roughly stock 3.91s would be fun as hell. Higher hp levels peace of mind in a ZL1 diff and a more useable 1st gear was my choice. Do the gears you will not regret.

Hi Steve
I put in the 1LE 3.91 and I love them. My car has a mild cam, the gears made a big difference. If your planning on forced induction, then I would stay stock gears. I am in Brampton also, hope to see you out on the roads. |

Gears are definitely one of the best things you can do for these cars. They are heavy, and really come alive when give them some mechanical advantage.
We do carry the 3.91 (and 4.11) ratios on our website. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. https://gwatneyperformance.com/produ...gn=391scamaro5

SpI near Hamilton did mine. They deal with a shop that specializes in drive lines. They install the gears in a diff at their shop and keep them in stock. Spi just called and had one delivered while shipping mine back to them. Drove right from there to the drag strip. That was 3 years ago.

So, this is what I have now, long tubes, x pipe, cat back system, cold air intake, 160 degrees thermostat, and a tune. Had this work done about 4 years back. When I drive in tap shift mode the car really moves and 1st gear is really short. How will the 3:91 gears make a difference when driving the car, or when I modify the car further do I need them for supporting my upgraded mods?

Thanks Dingo. I started to email a few shops and that was one of them. I was told they were going to send me an estimate.

I have a 2011 camaro ss modded : i have 3:91 gears on a upgraded transmission that handles 1000 hp. Got the 2.9 whipple wit the nick Williams 102 boosted TB, makes a difference. headers, cat delete and auxiliary pump which handles 1000hp.
Now CHVYMAC mustang dyno 840 rwhp. It's pretty fast but when i get past 160mph it blows out a lil water while running 170+ and it still be pulling. Tring to figure if the gears are to low to be doing pulls at 150mph? Now if i just press the gas and get to 170mph no problem, but if i do a pull from 150mph then a lil smoke come from underneath the car. Once i slow down smoke stops. Then everything seals back up. No leaks nothing. Therefore i can do pulls up to 160mph no problem. Or do you think its a tunning error? Or engine compression issue. Maybe a bigger cam? Appreciated your feed back.. Hey Sean. Nice car. Like your set up. I’m not sure about your situation. Sorry bud. What wheels and tire setup do you have?
