Ford Ranger Raptor

New Ranger Raptor was unveiled in Thailand yesterday, and is following its big brothers footsteps with a smaller turbo'd motor. Hopefully they use the right head gaskets this time...

Part of me thinks it's good business sense to make a US version of this. But at the same time I think leaving the Raptor to F-150 would allow Ranger to take up the old concept name Lightning Bolt and go full street performance. This would allow for FP to get into an underserved niche in the truck market.

They almost have to bring it to US market if theyre bringing the Ranger back anyways. 12% of Colorado sales were ZR2s at last check, so a similar percentage for the Ranger Raptor would make it worth it. Not having a gas option may make it too expensive though, the ZR2 with a diesel MSRPs at $44,8995 for the 2 seater diesel, $46,495 for the 5 seater diesel, which IMO is way past what anybody should be paying. Not saying the Ranger would have to be in that price ballpark though.

Looks promising, though twin turbo in a midsize diesel engine is not really new.

That Ranger Raptor will cost more than the original F150 Raptor when it debuted. Ridiculous

Pick up pricing is completely out of hand as manufacturers rush to fleece the sheep who think you need to give your 5’3” wife a crew cab F-350 dualy to run to the grocery store and take the kids to soccer practice.

I just spec’d out a 2018 Colorado and the term “overpriced” hardly begins to tell the story.

I don't disagree that pickup pricing seems a bit crazy these days, but I look at this this way.

First off...prices for pretty much all vehicles these days (and I'm talking MSRP) is just high!

Second...I firmly believe that MSRP for trucks is purposely inflated so that they can run these ridiculous 8, 10, 12, even 14 thousand off MSRP sales which convinces people that they are now getting one hell of a deal. Anyone that pays close to MSRP on a full size truck deserves the huge $$$ depreciation loss. Except for brand spanking new models, anyone should be able to walk in and get 8 grand or more off a truck right now. Some dealers are already offering 5 - 8 grand off the 2019 RAM.

Colorado and Canyon hold their MSRP a bit better due to popularity and availability, but even now if you shop around you can get thousands off.

I have said this from day 1, especially on the ZR2's, and I get hammered.

I said above that prices in general seem a bit crazy, but I will also say that I don't think too many people are going to think that a crew cab V6 4x4 Z71 model for $36,000 is priced all that ridiculous. That's MSRP. If you look and haggle a little, you can get it for less easily.

So...overpriced for what you get? I don't think so. Just b/c you can get a FS for maybe 2 - 4 grand more after the crazy high rebates doesn't mean people should get a full size. MSRP is 8 - 10 grand higher for the FS, but there is no way it cost nearly that much more to actually build a siverado versus a similarly spec'd Colorado.

Maybe if you are someone looking for the true small trucks of days long passed and wanting low prices for a small truck...well then I can understand your angst, but nothing can be done about that.
