G8 GXP FASTER THAN CAMARO SS?

i have noticed that the pontiac g8 has a better 0-60 than the camaro. Best g8 time i've seen is 4.5 and 4.6 for the Camaro, but they are tied in the quarter at 13 flat.

i'm a bit dissapointed because i thought the higher ponies and lighter weight in the camaro would overcome the better gearing in the g8. Anyone know if chevy will offer equal or better gearing in the camaro?

There will eventually be 3.73 rear end available just not yet. That will make the difference. Were the Camaro will beat the G8 as is right now is handling.

3:73 gears will be available next year. But wait a few months and you'll see people breaking into 12's, don't worry.

GXP already has a 3.70 rear end. The Camaro, with revised gearing will be faster, and it's much cheaper. I do like both cars though, the GXP as part of the GM family is still a great car, but Camaro will prove to be faster in real world and the track.

I don't have any stats in front of me, but doesn't the Camaro have a significantly higher trap speed through the quarter?

I'm pretty sure the G8 GXP isn't trapping 111-112 mph, and believe it or not a couple of mph difference in trap speed is significant.

From some of G8 GXP dynos out there .. I think that engine is underrated anyways .. I believe it is making as much power as the LS3 Camaro ..

Dissappointed? Wow. Those 0-60's you quoted, were they from the very 1st reviews of the GXP or later reviews, or actual times outside of the reiviews? I would venture to say that the Camaros numbers will improve. That being said, I think the Camaros numbers are just fine. IMVHO

I think he meant he's disappointed that comparably to the G8 GXP he's disappointed not in general! The g8 GXP is one badass car if you need the roominess and want a camaro go for it!!

If I had kids, I'd be in a G8GXP in a heartbeat.

I don't have kids and the temptation has been there, especially with the 3000 cash back and special financing it tempts you every time you see it

The times your seeing for the Camaro were done in 34 degree weather. Not good for traction. The times will get better.
