Holy Cow! $1459 a year to Register a Pickup in CA

Wow! Just came across this video showing the cost per year to register a 2017 Ram pickup truck in the state of California. What must a new Camaro cost? The $105 I pay to register my Camaro with vanity plates in the state of Ohio is a bargain compared to the CA cost.

don't believe the hype - Camaro registration for my 2014 is @$300.

The registration on the Yukon was @$200.

Every year the registration fee goes down.

The CRVA fee on that truck in the video is for commercial vehicles with weights in excess of 10,000 lbs.

That Ram truck is registered with a weight of 35,000 lbs.

My Camaro is @4700 lbs.

My Yukon weights @5700 lbs.

Facts.

Trucks are considered commercial vehicles and the registration on commercial vehicles has gone up based on new higher registration fees. Not sure what the increase was, but they have gone up much higher than standard registration on cars. This link is just additional fees based on price. California is one of the highest reg fee in the union, just another reason I’m leaving as soon as possible. This increase was on top of already out of control fees, we all know this money will go to everything else but what it was earmarked for.

So if you spend 35000 dollars on a new camaro you will spend a $150.00 more on top of normal fees, believe the hype. This also allpies to the adjusted amount of used vehicles being registered every year. My registration will go up this year on both vehicles.

The thread was about a truck (commercial vehicle). So not sure what you point was. And your registration is also going up. Read the bulletin, it will also include vehicles. I posted accurate information. This applies to all vehicles across the board starting in 2018.

Did you read the second sentence in the OP, where he was wondering what it would cost to register a Camaro? Or the 3rd sentence where he talked about how much of a bargin (compared to what he figures it most cost in California) his home state is to register his vanity plated Camaro.

Seems the OP is at least as interested in the cost for Camaros as pickup trucks.

Sure he also posted his camaro is going down every year. Not accurate it will go up in 2018 based on the information I posted. Read the bulletin. I just don’t appreciate mis information. It will probably go up between 75.00 to 150.00 dollars based on value of his vehicle. If you feel his info was helpful to other members good. I posted real information based on facts not conjecture. Further I posted the cost of a new camaro to register and a new commercial vehicle, I’ll be happy to do his vehicle for him with the new 2018 fee added on.

And this is why I bought my Camaro before moving. I'll do anything I can to keep from supporting this joke of a state.

My registration fees for that car would be about $100.

My sales tax for that car would be $4,387!

Just for the fun of it I used the California DMV registration fee calculator to estimate the registration cost for a 2018 ZL1.

I took a look at the paper work from the purchase of my 2017 ZL1. The new vehicle registration fee was $18.50 and the title fee was another $15 ($33.50 total). Now this was on a transfer of plates from old to new. Still a darn big difference between Ohio and California.

Don’t forget drivers licenses so they can get in accidents without insurance.
