Tonight was the night I was supposed to go to the track and see if I could hit 12's without boost, but on Monday my transmission blew up during a shift. I pulled the pan off and there is metal in the pan, so the entire transmission and converter will have to be rebuilt. Haven't seen which part went out yet, I should have the transmission removed by this weekend so I can see if it was the input shaft or converter that failed.
Since I have to pull the transmission out, I might as well pull the engine out too and start my build. When the transmission blew up my RPM hit over 8200, so I need to see if the engine is hurt also. Going to be fun to get all this stuff together. |

Sorry to hear about your luck, but sounds like a good reason to keep your build living on. GL and please keep us posted.

IPF Camaro V6 vs Procharger Mustang V6 (Soon)
That sucks it blew but...might as well do it all now. Once it’s all done it’ll be a beast. You doing a full internal build? Aftermarket parts? Machine shop?
I’d love to rip mine apart to mix and match from the LF3 or 4. Not sure how much mates up but I’ll find out one day Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Don't know what I will be doing, I still haven't removed the transmission yet to see what broke, it is a low priority for me right now. I did pull off the exhaust though and had water condensation in the driver side headers but not the passenger side. I might have a head gasket leak, will have to see when I tear the engine apart.
I'm pretty sure it is the input shaft though, I did those long 3rd gear pulls from 0-60, so 4 seconds of max torque being applied to the input shaft probably weakened it enough to where a hard shift finally snapped it. I calculated the power it would have required to accelerate my 4100 lb vehicle in that time, it was amazing the transmission even lasted as long as it did. |

Got the transmission out and here are pictures of you like to see broken parts. Input shaft snapped like I thought.

I need to go over the costs of every type of upgrade, so much to do right now. Do I go forged pistons or hypereutectic? Standalone ECU or stick with Bosch? Jet turbine engine or V8? |

Got the transmission out from under the car and was able to get better pictures of the input shaft. I need a reverse torq socket, the only socket type I do not have, to get the valve body out. After that I pull the pump/bellhousing, then I can show how the input shaft snapped. Pump will have to replaced though, don't think I can smooth the damage out.

Got the turbine shaft out and you can tell it was not a clean break.
Will be doing a lot of rebuild and possibly a transbrake on this now. |

I have the transmission completely taken apart and now have a full list of what I need.
6L50 rebuild kit (gaskets mainly, but might as well replace the clutches) Fluid Pump 4-5-6 clutch assembly (already have) 1-2-3-4 clutch hub 3-5-R & 2-6 clutch hub Torque Converter rebuild Those were all damaged when the shaft broke. All other parts are good. Taking the transmission apart was actually easy, putting it back together will take time but as long as I follow the instructions it should be good. |

Are you going with a stock converter, higher stall, or like a higher stall multi disc set up?

Having my Circle D 5C rebuilt, it is custom built for my setup and works flawlessly. Stalls out to 5200 RPM, so it is hitting right where I have the best airflow and creating max torque, which is the reason I broke my input shaft to begin with. It is a triple disk also, so I lock it up in 3rd gear. Only mod I might try is to get the converter feed to supply pressure faster to the converter clutch, I want to lock the converter in 2nd gear like I do in NA configuration, when I shift into 3rd I'm still at max torque, so I don't need it to be unlocked and I can get an even faster time. There is a way to do it in the tune but Vince @ Trifecta is the only one that knows how and idiots drove him away from helping the community.

Thanks, will probably be next year when I try though. I'm going to go ahead and rebuild the engine while I'm at it, but will be waiting till December when I do. My dad is retiring and visiting out here, I think rebuilding an engine with him would be a good memory to have later.
