Anyone have a tune causr problems??
I have a Superchips tune on the way. I know it voids the warranty as long as they can prove it's a ditect result but Ive never tuned a car and curious if anyone has ever had one directly mess up their car?

crap tunes will do crap things to your car. best to get it dyno and street tuned by a professional.

If you're giving up your warranty, then make sure you know who who's taking care of you. Superchips... call their customer service line while you're waiting to tune and see how it goes. I don't know anything about them, but you need to make sure you're aware of everything that can happen if you go this route.

The only way I would spend money on a hand held tuner is if it has the ability to load a custom tune. Otherwise, IMO, it's a waste of money. I had a Superchips tuner for my 04 Silverado, and let's just say I was less than impressed. Went back to stock after a week and got a custom tune.

The only time I call a custom tune a custom tune is when Im actually plugged into a clients vehicle changing percentages in real time. You'll notice a performance differance, but its not optimizing your vehicle through calibration. Phil www.TampaTuning.com |

I got the tune for free so Im not out any money on it. I mainly want it to disable the AFM, and get a better throttle response. Simple stuff really. I dont race or drag it, not a daily driver. A weekend car I take to shows. Is it worth it?

I always encourage people to get a dyno/street tune by a skilled professional. When you leave you have a car that's perfectly tuned exactly the way you want it. |

I agree. Mine was tuned by a well known tuner on this board via handheld. My tune consisted of TM delete, CAGS delete, various codes for headers and for power, just the PE A/F was changed. Stock timing and everything else not changed. Car ran ok. Took my own software out to scan about a month later, KR everywhere. Had a local tuner do his tuning. Instantly felt alot better. I scanned it after, no KR and alot of table's changed. Car was just a lot smoother to drive. So, I'm done with mail order or hand held stuff on GM's.

I often get P.M.s from guys that feel the same way (swithed from popular hand held tunes to dyno/street tunes done locally). This information is rarely posted because of the popularity of some of these tunes. |

I wouldn't touch a hand held tuning device myself. I've used HP Tuners and I know how many parameters there are within the software. Personally I've only done some minor tweaks to my car with HPT and after I installed my whipple it was time for a real pro who knows these cars in and out to get my tune spot on.
