Please stay on your side of the centerline when running the Tail of the Dragon. Don't meet yourself coming. Watch for the Crotch rockets who will pass you anywhere. Remember the drop off is steep and in some places, "It's a long way to the bottom!"

I've been once, I brought my bikes. I was more concerned with the cars crossing the center lines. It was mostly pretty tame. I did see one Camaro that went off the road on the mountain side and hit the mountain. This was in 2017.

Figures, I'll likely be busy or I'd be down there to mingle. Love doing the dragon though. It's local for me so we find ourselves on a number of times a year. Done it in my 2010, '87, and '17 but the '14 has yet to go and she needs front tires. I've dodged bikes, cars, trucks, critters on that road. Watched a Harley flip off the side in front of my IROC one day, no more than 5 minutes after dodging a crotch rocket that took a corner wide. Can be fun, can suck balls. Just keep it within your abilities. It's an unforgiving place if you screw up.

Very fun indeed!
Went last year and plan to go again this year with the new car. I went about an hour after sun up and had the road mostly to myself. The only incident I saw was going around a blind corner and finding a pack of "goldwing" style bikes stopped in the road. A couple members were trying to help another pick her bike back up... I imagine it must be tough trying to go around some of the extreme "cut-back" turns really slow on two wheels. Last edited by Jay_LHD3; 06-13-2019 at 12:28 PM. |

In 2015 after leaving the Camaro Fest in Bowling Green, Five Camaro's and myself went to the Tail of the Dragon. I also drove it in my C6 Corvette some years ago. Here is a picture of the Camaro group. I'm the lead car.

Do they shut the road down? No speed limit? I mean, the OP states "See what your Camaro can do."

I wish I can do this with you guys. Just came back from vacation a few weeks ago, so my vacation time is done for a while I guess. I do this almost every year on my bikes. I actually had a crotch rocket pass me one time and crashed when another car came around the corner, the lane he was in. dumbass!. I haven't been on my 'wing yet. just on the west coast with roads much more technical and longer than the dragon, just not as well known.

My wife and I went to the Smokies and visited the Dragon in April of 2017 for our 13th wedding anniversary. It was a great time and we we had a blast. Here’s a few pics of our time there.
