DRL confusion
After reading and reading on here, comparing to what I see around town, I seem to be the only one using headlights are my DRLs. Everything else I see is fog lights DRLs. I've only had my ride 4 months but this simple concept confuses me. My headlights seem to come on dim and flip to full power when it gets dark enough. Fogs only come on when I put the light circle in. Am I doing something different or did I get some aftermarket work done that I can't find? Enlighten me please!
2010 SS here, btw. |

Do you have a non-RS or a RS camaro? I see in your avatar you have a white SS badge, that indicates you have a non-RS.
If you have a non-RS camaro then you do not have DRL's - you have fog lights. Your turn signal bulbs act as your DRLs. Also, moved to the cosmetic/lighting mods subforum. |

I may be wrong, it happens on occasion. But the way I understand things, that is exactly how they work unless you have the halo headlights. Halos can't handle the dual beam for the DRL, or something like that, so Chevy put the DRL in the fog lamp spot so if you have halos you don't have fog lights.
That is exactly the same way my car works. DRL in headlights and brighter in the dark, with a separate switch for the fogs. |

The DRL (fog lamps on) are part of the RS Package. The RS Package does not have a factory "off/on" fog lamp switch. The DRL (RS fog lamps) turn off when its dark & the headlamps turn on.

a non RS Camaro also has DRLs. but the turn signals ARE NOT your DRLs. it is your headlights, at a low wattage. as far as your fog lights, they will only come on when you low beam headlights are on. they will turn off when you turn on your brights. They won't work during the day time unless you turn off your auto lighting, and turn your headlights on manually, and then you can turn your fog lights on too.

Thanks for moving this, Stig.
It is indeed not an RS. They DRL behavior is definitely in the headlight and not the turn signal though on mine. The main reason I ask because I've tried to decipher what I need to get it to RS-type behavior with the fogs on for DRL and not the headlamps. Then I get myself into future headlamp upgrade thoughts and I get myself alllllll lost with the 100 wire harness DRL variations there of. At least I know I am not the only one with my setup now.
