I was just wondering if any of you have some insight on how to protect the car from the nasty chicago winters? the salt can be a nightmare here!

i'd get the car Zeibarted. My dad did it to my truck when it was brand new, and it has very little rust after 15 years of all that and being left outside all the time for the last 10. i recently was told that they do yearly touch-ups, but don't know that for sure.

If you have another vehicle, drive it instead on the worst days. Otherwise keep it clean and wash it ever 2-3 drives if there's snow, mud, etc. And do not drive it on those infamous windy days!

As a fellow snow and salt goer..... Id store it in the winter. Mine will sleep in my heated garage for the winter. Then get yourself a winter beater to drive in the slush and salt and snow.
If that isnt an option, a good undercoating/ziebarting is a good start. Make sure you get a few good coats of wax on to before it gets cold. Then wash it, outside and undercarriage, at least once a week, preferrably two.

How the heck do you wash a car when it's 0 degrees outside?!? When I still lived up in that s-hole of a city, I used to just go through the automatic washes, but not sure I'd do that with a brand new car.

If you want to take it out for a spin in that weather, you'd better be devoted enough to wash it in 0 degrees! As long as its not windy, water doesn't freeze instantly and you'll have time to wash and dry. Just wear water resistant gloves and use a controlled spray nozzle.

well you dont have to really wash it if it's really cold. go to one of the self washes and blast the salt off with the power washers. Wait for a nicer day when the snow is over with and give it a good washing then.
