MGW shifter + notchiness?

I'm very interested in getting the MGW shifter as I find the stock shifter absolute garbage but my problem is the nibble from 2-3. A good amount of the time I'll hit a notch about midway point between neutral and 3, which is pretty damn annoying considering every other gear is smooth.

Can anyone chime in if the MGW shifter will get rid of this problem or perhaps even make it worse? Something tells me the nibble just might be because of the sloppy stock shifter.

I can't speak for the MGW but my Hurst short throw made no difference. The 3rd gear "notch" is an inherant problem with the Tremec 6060. Guys have tried aftermarket short throws, different fluids, etc but nothing really seems to help. GM changed out my entire transmission because of 2nd & 3rd gear issues on mine and I STILL get a slightly notchy 3rd gear shift!

I've heard that the MGW is a top shelf product and certainly a worthy upgrade to the stock shifter but there's really no guarantee that it will help the notch going into 3rd.

Not sure what you mean by notch but the MGW wants to go from 2 to 3. It takes extra effort to go from 2 to 1. The stock shifter is garbage. I love my MGW.

I just installed my mgw last night, took it for a drive at 2am.. I was more than impressed! Never had to give it a second thought on what gear I was in or what gear I was going to. I got the retro ball, its feels like your part of the tranny when your shifting... downs: kinda a pita to install, but can be installed by anyone.. and a little bit of noise from tranny, but was expected using hard bushings. It comes with softer bushings to stop this but I wanted more of a direct connect to tranny... Very good product!!

Ahh that sucks, not what I wanted to hear lol. My tranny is fine except for that occasional 3rd gear nibble.

On my car when you go from neutral to third, just in between theres a very noticeable notch, the shifter goes in smooth till it hits that point, after which itll almost 'crunch' into gear.

A new shifter will not help with that. Your problem is internal to the tranny.

I love my MGW by the way.

With the stock shifter, do not put your hand on top of the shifter.

I found less (actually none) missed shifts at the track holding it like a pistol grip. It moves your elbow in closer to your side and changes the stroke of the shift.

I'm not having any problems shifting, just commenting that the stock shifter is garbage and was wondering if upgrading to the MGW would have any effect on the notchiness of third. But by the looks of it, I'm gonna have to get on my dealers ass about my tranny before I upgrade to the MGW, because no doubt they'll blame the notchiness on an aftermarket shifter.

you may want to change the fluid. Many people have seen the slight noise issue resolved with a fluid change.

I installed MGW shifter on mine as well. LOVE IT!! Haven't noticed a notchiness in 3rd gear though. Way better than the garbage stock unit.

I installed my MGW Shifter yesterday. Way better than the stock shifter. On high speed shifting, sometimes 3rd or 2nd wouldnt go in right but now it goes in nice and smoothly. I received the "new design" shifter from MGW and it caused a little confusion at the end because I didnt read the revisions, but other than that, the install is pretty easy. Maybe MGW can post up pics of the new design and the changes they made to the shifter. There's a new bracket for the dust boot but I didnt know where to put it so I left it off. So far hasnt caused any problems without it.
