Looking to Buy a ZL1. help?
Im looking to buy a 12'-15' ZL1 in a year, (working on paying off my daily driver first)
Im just wondering, from your perspective should i get a low mile, good condition car and not worry about the color so much, or should i just try and hold out for "thee one"? Im finding it really hard to find a Summit White ZL1 either with the Black accents or otherwise, and was wondering what you all thought. |

For me I notice I go through cars unless I get "thee one". I personally have a thing for Silver. I looove the look of silver and I literally bought my ZL1 sight unseen 18 hours away because I found a silver 12 automatic with 8,000 original miles.
I'm a mechanic and have never bought a car before without thoroughly looking it over, but when I seen this car I knew I had to have it and I had been looking for about 6 months for a low mileage silver and never could find one local. I feel bad how many questions I asked the guy about the car, but he was an older gentleman and took about 100 pictures and multiple videos of every last part of the car for me. I had the car shipped and had to drive a few hours to a nearby city to meet the trucking company bringing it. On the drive I started thinking about how much $ I spent on a car sight unseen. I was nervous as shit. Finally got there and looked it over. Car was perfect! Drove it 3 hours home and was amazing. Couldn't believe how much better it was then my supercharged 5th gen SS. So personally for me it's very important to get the exact color I want and pretty much the exact car I want. It's worth the wait.

What black accents are you looking for? The ZL1 has body color matching components. Such as roof drip molding, shark fin antenna, spoiler. The black accents might be the hood being black instead of carbon, and black wheels. Just to help you in your searches!

This is a special car, therefore I would:
1. Buy a low mileage, well cared for example 2. Depending on the options you desire, you will either buy a 12-13, or a '14-'15 (recaro seats). 3. Look for the color that you want. You will spend enough money that you should not compromise. Good luck.

I agree with the previous posters---wait for the absolute perfect match for what you want. You have to be diligent in searching and be willing to travel to get the right car, but it will ultimately be worth it.
Last summer I traveled about 1800 miles round trip and trailered my 2015 ZL1 home, but it was exactly what I wanted. Red tint coat metallic, 5 spoke wheels, automatic and only 1800 miles on it. The car was in absolutely showroom condition and the 30 year old seller was one of the nicest, most honest people I have ever dealt with. Best part is that I paid $21000 less than the window sticker which he had paid in full. I keep cars for a very long time and I make sure that I "do my homework" and buy exactly what I want. I still have a 1969 Corvette that I bought in 1979. Good Luck and find the exact ZL1 that you want. You'll be extremely happy with it!! |

I see a LOT of black Zl1's for sale in a really good price range, a few red and silver but white seems to be hit or miss. Also, i plan on enjoying the trip to wherever the car is and the drive back. |

When it’s pollen season I hate the fact that my ZL1 is black. My daily driver is also black, To make matters worse, I am picking up my 2019 Suburban tomorrow. It’s black too. Thank God I bought white for my wife. On the other hand, once you own it , mod it and drive it, color matters less and less. Someone could paint my ZL1 hot pink tomorrow and I would still love it. Somehow the power makes you get past everything else. If Chevy would have produced this engine in the 70’s and sold it to AMC for the Pacer, people would have lined up to buy it.

Look for one that has low miles and no mods. Condition rules all. Personally I don't get absolutely hooked on what color it is unless I really hate the color. Ideally I actually wanted a red one, but i was also partial to yellow, plus the one I got was low miles, dirt cheap for the price and looked brand new.
Also, don't daily drive it if you don't like draining your wallet. These things are pretty bad on gas, you'll be filling up at least once a week unless you work around the block from your home.

I had to have an ashen grey metallic 5th gen ZL1 with black rims, also it had to be 2012 or 2013 because I liked the tail lights better than the 2014-2015. I was very tempted to get black because there were several close to me but in the end I knew would regret not getting grey. After months of searching I decided to have "the one" shipped from 1,000 miles away and like another poster said I was nervous as hell. I did have a Chevy dealer give the car a thorough inspection before sending them my payment and upon delivery there were no surprises.
If your like me and color is important definitely hold out for the one you want. These cars cost way too much money to settle and every time I look at my car I'm glad I got "the one". Good luck! |
