2012 V6 Engine R+R

Good day all, I just bought my first Gen 5 Camaro and need to replace the engine. Everything I have read to this point tells me The engine comes out the bottom. Looking under the hood , sure looks like enough room to pull it out from the top. Just wanting to know who has done this before I start and get myself in a real mess. I have owned many earlier Camaros and swapped many engines, but not one newer than a 1993. This is all new to me. any help ?

The V8 will come out the top so I don’t see why the V6 wouldn’t either. I’m sure someone else will chime in. Welcome to Camaro5 by the way!

I'm pretty sure you can get the V6 from the top like the V8. Not 100% sure though. But I don't see why not.

Take pictures of each step for easier installation of the new engine. This is also from my Haynes manual for removing the engine through the top:

REMOVAL

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Place protective covers on the fenders and cowl and remove the hood.

3. Remove the air filter housing and intake duct.

4. Remove the crossbrace (if you have one).

5. Drain the cooling system and disconnect the heater hoses from the engine.

6. Remove the engine cooling fan.

7. Drain the engine oil and remove the filter.

8. Label each vacuum line, emission system hose, electrical connector, ground strap, and fuel line for easier reassembly.

9. Deatch the air conditioning compressor from its mounting bracket and hang it out of the way.

10. Disconnect electrical connector and vacuum line to the brake booster.

11. Remove the PCM and secure the harness to the engine.

12. Raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands.

13. Detach the exhaust pipes from the manifolds.

14. Remove the transmission.

15. Attach lengths of chain to the engine using the lifting brackets (if equipped), or bolt the ends of the chain to the cylinder heads using the exhaust manifold bolts. Tighten the bolts securely.

16. Raise the engine enough to take the weight off the engine mounts, then remove the engine mount nuts.

17. Tie the wiring harnesses out of the way, then raise the engine with the hoist while guiding it up and out, raising it high enough to clear the front of the body.

18. Remove the driveplate or flywheel and mount the engine on an engine stand.

INSTALLATION

1. Check the engine mounts and transmission mount to see if they need replaced.

2. Lower the engine, guiding it down onto the engine mount studs. Install the mount nuts and tighten them to 59 ft.-lbs.

3. Install the transmission.

4. Reinstall the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.

5. Refill the crankcase with oil and the cooling system with coolant.

6. Run the engine and check for leaks and proper operation of all accessories, then install the hood and test drive the car.
