"The what things weigh thread"

It would be very nice if we also had a thread where every single part of our Z28 is listed with it weight. Like the Shelby GT350 owners do in their Mustang forum - "The what things weigh thread":

They listed the weight of all oem parts and they added alternative parts that are lighter.

I'll start with it.

OEM ALCOA wheel weight: 26.2 lbs per wheel (11,89 kg)
Forgeline GS1R (11x19 +11 = 9,26 kg, 11.5x19 +26 = 9,49 kg)

OEM A/C: 28,4 lbs (12,9 kg)

OEM lug nuts: 1 piece = 71 g, 20 pieces = 1,42 kg (3.128 lbs)
TITAN7 lug nuts: 1 piece = 22 g, 20 pieces = 440 g

OEM battery: 45.6 lbs (20,7 kg)
LITE↯BLOX LB28XX battery: 6.17 lbs (2,8 kg)

OEM flywheel: 13,47 kg (29.67 lbs)
Mantic flywheel: 6,91 kg (15.22 lbs)

RECARO Pole Position seat: 7,7 kg
RECARO Pole Position Carbon seat: 4,5 kg

The weight of the lug nuts is 100% safe because I weighed it myself. I got the rest from the Internet.
It would be nice if someone could confirm that, if he also weighed it himself.

Unfortunately I have nothing more at the moment.
What interests me most would be the oem seats, the oem tires and the oem driveshaft. Do any of you know this?

I removed my washer bottle full of fluid. You need to go into the wheel liner on the driverside front tire and remove a few bolts. Then you can access the bottle. I didn't weigh it but a rough guesstimate (with it nearly full) is around 12lbs~ish. All of the weight is in front of the front tires.

On the list above you have the factory wheels listed as 26.2lbs per wheel. How can the front and rear wheels weigh the same? The rears are slightly wider.

Yes, I was also surprised when I read it here in this forum - someone's info from our forum. The explanation is that the greater offset of the front wheel is so large that it accidentally compensates for the width of the rear wheel in terms of weight.
I assume that his info about the wheel weight is correct.

There is currently a guy stripping his 5th gen 1LE to make it into a race car. He has been documenting the weight of all the parts he has been stripping off. Although it's not Z/28 specific, many of the components would be the same between the two cars. You can find his thread here:

OEM driver seat = 20.2 kg
OEM passenger seat = 18.1 kg
OEM passenger seat subframe = 4.6 kg
Sparco Grid II seat = 8 kg
Aluminium side mounts (pair) = 1.7 kg

OEM steering wheel = 3.2 kg
Dry carbon race steering wheel = 0.9 kg

OEM Z28 plastic engine covers = 1.4 kg (for both)
OEM plastic trunk trim = 1.0kg

OEM rear toe link arms = 2.4kg (pair)
Pfadt rear toe link arms = 1.6 kg (pair)

OEM DSSV top mounts = 2.4kg (pair)
Moreno V2 Camber plates = 1.4kg (pair)

OEM radiator cover = 1.2 kg
Anderson Composites radiator cover = 0.4 kg



So far I've saved 42.5 kg that I've weighed. That doesn't include the fibreglass front wings which I didn't get a weight of. I also haven't done the Lithium battery yet, so a good few more kgs to come!

No need, the weights listed on this website for all brands are accurate in my experience. That goes for the sizes (widths and revs per mile too)

28 lbs / 12.7 kg.

The old Michelin Cups were slightly lighter, the new Michelin Cup2s are slightly heavier. I've never heard of anyone choosing what tyres to run by their weight though! All the 'R'-type compound tyres are generally a good bit lighter than the more road-based tyres...

Which battery you will take?
And do you think about to swap the driveshaft and the flywheel?

Yeah that’s me, still have a lot to do. I’d imagine everything the same except the differences in rotational mass and LS7 components.

Yes, I have already read your thread. I like it very much.
The only difficulty is not knowing whether some parts of the 1LE are identical to the parts of the Z28 or not.

I can tell you chassis wise yes, interior pieces yes, but slightly different depending on packages like 2SS. My wheels weighed in at 26.8 front 27 rear, my tires are 33. The main differences between us are going to be your brakes being a lot lighter, the LS7 is maybe a couple lbs lighter but you have to factor in your dry sump system and you also carry more fluids than me ie oil, trans fluid to the diff cover. Also the Z aero kit would be adding weight as well. I have RS package and my head/taillights are heavier than yours by a couple pounds.

I have the Z suspension kit, Z 2.75 catback, and Z spoiler/wicker combo. I’m actually pulling the catback to shed some weight and currently pulling complete ac/heater core assembly. And you probably read that my doors and all windows will be replaced.

I do not, but they're aluminum with composite plastic upper/lower end caps. I may be pulling mine to get the condenser out and whatever else I dont need in the engine bay. If I do I'll weigh it as I've been weighing everything that I've detached from the car lol.
