Water Spots / New Products for black cars

I used a new car wash recently and must not have dried my car right. I have water spots that will not go away. I clayed the car and then buffed it with both the 105 and 205 and the spots wont go away. Any suggestions?


I haven't done a full detail in about 8 months. Is there anything new out there that is working for swirls and black cars? I am hearing good things about the Black Fire products.

Damn dude, if you clayed, 105/205 and they are still there I'm at a loss.sorry hopefully someone from Adams or the like will chime in and have a suggestion or two for you to try. I've never had any water spots I couldn't pull out with 205/105. Maybe give Minzerna 400FG a shot on a harder pad and see if that will pull them out. Wish you the best of luck!!!

I used Adam's haze and swirl remover (with orange pad on my porter cable) to remove hard water marks left from the sprinkler system when parked at a hotel overnight. After using the haze and swirl, I applied a coat of Adam's polish and then wax. No more spots.

Good Luck, hope you can get them out.

It sounds like your spots have etched into the clear coat if 105 didn't remove them.

I usually wash, then if they wont go away, clay, if that doesn't work I use distilled white vinegar mixed 3 parts water with 1 part vinegar, if they still remain compound.

Depending upon how deep the etching is, it may not be practical to remove them. I've only measured 3 other Gen 5 Camaro's that were done at the Oshawa Plant in Canada, and they all have a healthy coat of paint averaging 190 to 210 microns, but I can't say for sure actually how much of that is clear coat.

I have wet sanded out a few deeper "rids" from my car and removed 12-14 microns of paint in these areas with no issues, and had one that still remained, but it can only be seen from a certain angle in direct sunlight.

I would try a couple passes using a more aggressive pad. I'm assuming your using a light/med cutting pad? Try a microfiber cutting pad or a CarPro Flash Pad.

Since you did use a different soap, I'm curious if it's LSP safe? My car is not garaged, and in the elements 24-7 and I've never had any spots that made it through my sealant.

It's also possible also that your sealant or wax had degraded to an extent that the minerals in the water made their way to the clear coat as well. I don't know what type of wax or sealant you are using, I've used Sonus Ion, Adams Paint sealant, Adams HGG, Menzerna power lock, and Collinite 845 and have never had any spots make their way through.

Move on to more aggressive compound and pad.

Our Paint Correcting Polish and Gen5 Orange pad will remove them as long as they aren't too deep. Does your finger nail catch in them?

My fingernail does not catch the water spots. The spots are hard to see but they are there and they bother me. I am going to hit it with some vinegar today and then try buffing it again with the 105 and orange pad.

They will polish out then, do a 2x2 section and don't move on until you get your test spot corrected.

I was able to remove all the water spots. Thanks everyone. I haven't done a full detail in about 8 months. Is there anything new out there that is working for swirls and black cars? I am hearing good things about the Black Fire products.

Using the 105 again worked?

Yes. I used the vinegar and water and then used the orange pad with the 105. It was a slow process but it worked. All I did today was the hood.
