ZL1 or 2011 Grand Sport?
I was set on the ZL1. I went to pay my money down today and my dealer had an intriguing offer for me... Do I want a ZL1? or would I rather have a 2011 Corvette Grand Sport?
The easy answer would be ZL1 until he sweetened the offer a bit. With in market retention, my other discounts, and their discounts, they are offering me the car for 50k. yes a brand new GS for 50k. Thats cheaper than the ZL1. I bought my camaro cash, so they will give me about 28 in trade in. That means I'm only going to have to borrow 22k to buy it, which is easily affordable.... compare this to the almost 26-30k I'd have to pay out of pocket for the ZL1. hmm... lifes difficult challenges. Any insight? I know you all favor the ZL1 because its a camaro forum, and I own an SS so thats fine!

2010 Camaro SS modified extensively. I stretched the body to make it a 4 door, but I swapped in the 3.6L DI V6 for fuel economy. Then I picked up a corvette body around the V8. I also swapped the body for a C2 Z28. (In short I traded it for three cars, a Corvette Z06r, a C2 Camaro Z28, and a Cadillac CTS Summer Performance package 3.6L DI with Aisin 6spd.)

What options are included with the GS? Is it a 2011 on the lot? Does it have everything you want in the right color? I'd say if you are on the fence anyway, the car has what you want and is cheaper why not buy it? If you are compromising anything to get $5000 off I'd take a second look - $50,000 is a lot to spend on a car so I want everything without compromise!

Buy the vette....thats one more ZL1 to go around to the c5 members!
Yea, id say get the one youd think youd be most happy with. Sounds like to good of a deal to pass up even if you had your heart on a zl1. You could always change your mind down the road and sell the vette for a zl1 but that would not make any sense would it? LOL!

I'm never really quite sure how to respond to these should I get a XXXX or a ZL1 threads, as purchasing a vehicle is a very personal choice.
However, if your looking for perspectives, I'd suggest thinking about your needs, desires, and your current situation. What are you going to do with the vehicle? Do you need four seats and a separate trunk? Can you live with two seats? Would you rather have the top of the line Camaro, or a mid level Corvette? Do you want the LSA engine or the LS3 engine? For me personally, if I were going to purchase a new Corvette today, I'd purchase a Z06 (if cost were a factor) or a ZR1 (if cost were not a factor). A base Corvette or a GS Corvette just isn't that special to me, especially, with the C7 just around the corner. For me the choice between the GS Corvette and the ZL1 is a no brainer. I love the technology that's in the ZL1, and I think it's a much more interesting vehicle than a GS Corvette is.

Sounds like a steal of a deal on the GS. I'd go with the GS if I had 2 less kids:-)
I've heard some great things about the GS - many have said it's a better overall car than the Z06 - particularly for the $s.

ZL1 for me. 430hp vs 580hp regardless of weight is a pretty big difference. Not to mention both are track ready cars.

I would regret getting the gs later, especially if the zl1 run ends up being shorter than expected.

I happen to own both(2007 Z06 & 2010 GS vert) and the Z06 will decimate it in any conceivable performance test. And the Z06 gets better gas mileage too,as crazy as that sounds. Don't get me wrong,I think GM hit a homerun with the Grand Sport. All the agressive looks of the Z06 and your choice of a targa or convertible top. But it doesn't hold a candle when it comes to performance. The Z06 is a beast. |
