First oil change debacle!!!

It seems there is conflicting advice given depending on which manual you look at. Hard copy manual that came with my 2017 ZL1 purchased July 3rd says 1500 miles. Then I was poking around on the mychevrolet website yesterday and found a track maintenance section that recommended changing at 500 miles during break in.

I'm thinking I'm going to Change mine asap (currently -~560m), and again at 1500. Only thing it can hurt is my wallet. What are you guys doing?

Also, are all ZL1 purchases supposed to include 2 free oil changes? Does it have to be at the dealer you bought the car at?

Pic is from the mychevrolet manual I mentioned.

There are all kinds of debates on this. I don't have a ZL1 but I'll give you my take and then I'll take the lashing that is to come.

I did my first at 500 miles with the regular 5W-30 Dexos1. Needed? Probably not but I'm a creature of habit and I have always done it that way. You can do it at any Chevy dealer.

I did my second one at 1,500 miles and switched to the 5W-40 Dexos2 as recommended for track use. The dealer just charged the difference between the free oil change and the Dexos 2.

I have never seen that document before, and did not receive it with my car. How does GM expect people to comply with the 500 mile oil change unless they tell you. I am a little over 1000 and was planning to change this week. If I had seen this, would have done so earlier.

Yes, they will say you don't have to but they will if you ask them.

Plus, the 500 mile change is for the Z06 with the dry sump or the Track Prep only

I never saw that either, but I'm glad that I followed it on accident.

Local dealership is making it difficult to have it done at 500. Waiting on a call back from the advisor who says my VIN does show as needing one at 500. The conversations have been funny so far as I'm reading directly from information from mychevrolet.com. I'll let you know what they say when they call back. Scheduling girl also said oil changes free for 2yr/24 months with all purchases.

They shouldn't be making a big deal about it! They get paid either way. Just make them do it if you want it done, or find another dealer. Mine said I could get it done any time I want. Also, you get 2 free oil changes. He said I could get them both done in consecutive days if I want.

There have been some people on here that have had issues with dealers not wanting to do the first oil change at 500. It's 100% the dealer that is making it difficult as most of us that do this have had no issues at all and GM will allow it as well. If they tell you anything about GM not allowing it, their full of crap.

I haven't seen this before today. Wtf. Dealer said nothing to me about changing the oil other than I get 2 free ones. And I'm not even sure I want to take it there because I just don't trust the dealer with my car.

Damn you make a good point! Hmmmmm. I have a case of Driven LS30 coming my way that I was going to switch to at 1500miles. Maybe the lure of "free" isn't really worth it. But shit, how hard is an oil change???

Update: Service advisor called me, I could tell he planned on debating me but was happy to oblige after hearing how friendly I was, and that I only wanted to schedule my first break-in recommended oil change according to mychevrolet.com.
