What's with the "mullet-ride" Camaro image?

When reading news about 5th gen, I saw Camaro being called "mullet ride" and similar, up to infamous "the car of choice for small-time drug dealers and wife beaters" on Mustang fans site.

What's going on, guys? Where did Camaro got such reputation from? Just google for camaro "mullet ride". Or similar queries - I've found "pearls" like these:
Quote:
About 17-18 years ago, when I was working in Germany, one of my German co-workers asked me: “What kind of car’s a Camaro?”. My answer was: “When you read a news story about a drunk 30 year old guy getting into a wreck with 3 teenage girls in his car, he was probably driving a Camaro”. The German guy got what I meant instantly, and he also said that “Here in Germany, it’s always an Opel”.
WTF?
I don't have a mullet, never had one (OK, temporarily - while I was growing long hair, there's always this point where the ones on the back seem longer as they were starting from a lower altitude) etc. I don't know any Camaro fan that wears a mullet (but I know only polish Camaro fans), and the only haircut amongst forum members I could remotely consider unfashionable is Fbodfather's flat-top, but this one hardly counts and looks simply good on many guys.

Dont know if this has been posted before but its kind of funny.

The reason that the mullet has been stuck with the Camaro/Firebird is because when the mullet was fashionable and "cool" (and yes at some point they were) the Camaro/Firebird was the cool ride. The "cool" mullet wearer needed a ride and such must have a ride of equal or greater "coolness" Answer was the Camaro/Firebird. Now as with most fashion the mullet was deemed unfashionable and uncool after a while, but yet the Camaro/Firebird lived on in its coolness. Now that is when the "haters" decided to label the Camaro/Firebird with the dying mullet in hopes that it would improve the status of their cars.

If you've never lived in the Southern USA, you can't possibly appreciate the mullets statements.

What people leave out is that Mustangs are just as capable of the demographic.

What would that Transformer's name be. I'll Start
I think he should be called "Mulletor"

Only one little problem. No self respecting southerner (including transforming space robots) would dare have a NASCAR bumper sticker without a big visible number somewhere on the vehicle (in robot form also).

Most commonly the number 8 or 3.

I just know that 24 is not allowed. 48 is acceptable but yer never gonna' see no 24 on a true southerner's car.
