22" or Stock 20" Wheels ???

I bought my first Camaro this past week. I wish I would have bought one sooner because the more I drive it the more I like it. As will see in the photo below it came with custom 22" wheels, low profile tires. I have the urge to buy the OEM black wheels thus more tire on the road. In my area the majority of roads and highway are rough because they like using a rock/chip sealant. I was told that low profile tires will not last long on these type of roads/highways.

For a Chevy "newbie", what kind of difference will I feel with stock size 20" wheels compared to what is on the car now, 22" with low profile tires? That is a 2014 SS 2SS model.

IMO, 22" is too big for 5th gen Camaros. The dimensions don't look right and they reduce the overall performance of the car.
Put 20" back on and enjoy your improved acceleration and braking. I don't know what the tire sizes are on your car now but I'm guessing they have a bigger diameter than stock. If so, this is definitely hurting your performance and your speedometer could be reading wrong if the car hasn't been tuned otherwise.

You couldn't pay me to put 22s on mine. But that is my opinion. See if you can find someone to buy those, or trade you for 20s. The 20s don't like rough roads either, but I am sure they have to be better than 22s.

Welcome to the 5th Gen family!

Thanks for your answer. They didn't look right to me either when I first saw the sales ad online, then in person. With no experience driving a Camaro I would not be able to tell if acceleration was different with the 22" wheels. With it having low mileage, one local owner that bought it at the local Chevy dealer it was too good to pass up. I figured I would deal with tires and wheels after I bought it.

Yea, the 22's would go if it was mine. Just too big for this car, imo. Gives it a 'Donk' kinda look and definitely isn't helping performance.

Beautiful car though and welcome to the site!

Thanks. I have a couple of places here in town to check out for OEM 20" black wheels. If nothing is found or a deal can't be made I have them picked out online with tires and $250 to ship. I will look to trade them first and put them up for sale if I can't find someone that will trade with me. With these two replies I am looking forward getting 20's back on the car.

The wheels off the 6th gen fit our cars too and they have some real nice ones. You can get OEM or reproductions.

I have numerous setups (love wheels) but only one set that is 21". When I installed them I noticed a decrease in the quality of the ride right off the bat. I initially thought something was wrong with them, like they were out of round or somehting. I could feel every single crack in the road. Had them checked out and nothing wrong other than not enough side wall to absorb the imperfections of the road. I have 5 different set of 20" wheels with two sets of Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 tires, Pirelli and Goodyear run flats, much better ride. I couldn't imagine 22"!

If you're swapping wheels, get yourself a nice set of lightweight 20's. No sense in going back to heavy stockers

Out of your listed tires, which set do you like the best? Thanks for the info.

I ordered wheels and tires yesterday. 3 different brand name tire stores in town and none of them had anything in stock. Should be ready to install by this Thursday.

Wheels: Niche Vosso M203's front 20x9, rear 20x10
Tires: Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 stock sizes for rear and front.

245/45/20 and 275/40/20

I have a set of 20s that would be perfect with Pirelli P-Zeros. Depending where you are in AZ, it wouldn't be too far of a drive. I'm in the Las Vegas area.

PM me if interested.

BTW, Camaros should never be DONKED.

There are 22" tires with the same OD as the 20". They are lower profile and so have short, stiff sidewalls. That's where the harsh ride comes from. Also they are more prone to flats and bent wheels from hitting potholes.

If you end up with 20" wheels, the OEM tire diameter is 28.7". Make sure the fronts and rears are the same diameter to avoid traction control problems.
