I love my pure bred dog. She's smart as hell. As for imbreding....I have paperwork that shows you're not correct at all. If there is any remote relationship between the mom and the dad, the puppies are not allowed to be AKC registered.

And yes, thats the owner's job to check. The male is picked out far ahead of time. Everything is planned and controlled.

The bitch doesn't choose her stud - the breeder does.

AKC registered breeders follow pedigrees and bloodlines, but they do not specifically inbreed. If one does not breed within their breed, then the breed is crossbred and diluted -- eventually it would be wiped out.

I believe you're thinking more along bloodlines -- this is not how each purebred is "bred." There are bloodlines that are more desired (these are generally the ones that have produced champion dogs - or ones who are "best" for their specific "work"), but outside of that, it's only puppy mills that are doing the "brother/sister-ish" inbreeding.

I have paperwork of Alannah's family up through her Great Grandparents to provide the proper breeding techniques were followed.

Keep in mind that I have nothing against crossbred or mutts. I think any dog should be loved and cared for no matter what. However, if one wants a specific breed of dog, the only way to guarantee what you're getting is a purebred.

And yes, technically, all of us WASP are inbred retards, too.

My parents dog...who was my childhood dog was a mutt. She was a mix of 1000 different dogs. And you know what...she was one of the smartest...cutest...and lovable dogs ever.

I have nothing against mutts. We picked Alannah as a pure bred because we wanted a Wheaten Terrier. I love dogs in general.

Hell...Kayla and I almost adopted a Wheat/Wolfhound mix from a kill shelter if they would have flown him here from Colorado. We honestly considered going there to get him. (We want an Irish Wolfhound)

While I'm not an AKC historian (or breed historian, for that matter), I am sure the practice was started in ancient times. It's no different than one who is Jewish that refuses to marry a non-Jew -- they are making the cognizant choice to stick with their "breed."

Further, a lot of the breeds we know today are quite modern in the grand scheme of things -- like within the past couple of centuries. This is due to concerted efforts by those who determined how to use genetics to their advantage (albeit, at the most elementary level).

Same here. We specifically chose a dachshund. Had we not given a poo (no pun intended) and just wanted any dog, we would have gone down to the shelter.
