L99 TUNING HELP REMOTE TUNE
I have headers with high flow cats, cold air intake and borla atak axleback. I'm ready to get a remote tune from dynosteve or Ted at jannety racing. I have a few questions.
1. Will my air fuel ratio be as accurate as a dyno tune? 2. Do I have to worry about engine knock? 3. Can drive and sport be tuned differently? 4. Is it safe to raise the rpms above 6200? 5. Are any changes made to the fuel tables? I run 93 octane but I still want my engine to be protected if I get bad gas. 6. What are some adjustments that are based on preference? For example afm off, transmission shifts and firmness, torque management? |

2. Engine knock will appear in data logging of the tune. However, the guys who do remote tunes have done so many of these cars they should be able to knock it out of the park. 3. Yes. It's called "wife mode" and for me it was a must have. 4. Depends on how high you're looking to go. 5. Yes, but stay with premium and you'll be fine. 6. If AFM bugs you, tune it out. If it doesn't leave it on and get an extra 1-2 mpg. Really any of the things you listed are personal preferences. There's room for extra tune adjustments with a remote tuner.

I went with DynoSteve and they have a "preset" tune. Once you run that for awhile, you can have them tweak things.

1. No, but it will be very close
2. Usually no, as long as the tune is close 3. Yes - Shifts will be tuned differently per mode 4. I don't recommend it if the AFM lifters are still in the engine - why take the risk for minimum benefit? 5. Yes - DynoSteve does NOT copy the high octane table over the low table . You will still have an intact low octane table, but it will be optimized as well 6. He will usually disable AFM (Unless requested otherwise), shifts will be firmer everywhere but much more so in Sport Mode. Torque Management will be minimized, but still within safe margins If you already have a handheld I would recommend paying the little bit extra for his lifetime tune updates. My original L99 tune was a single time tune, as I already owned an SCT X4. This came back to bite me when I blew my L99 and swapped in my LS3. I had to purchase a new tune from him as this was a different engine. When I had him tune the LS3 I bought the lifetime tune in case I decided to make any major changes down the line, and it was still cheaper than any tune I could get elsewhere. But his lifetime tune with SCT X4 purchase is the best deal overall.

I have a feeling he will post in here later. It still doesn't hurt to ask questions of his customers though, but for absolute answers of course he is the best source.
