Can forced 1st to 4th shifts be disabled?

The gas guzzler tax has me second guessing the auto transmission but I just came across this forced 1st to 4th shift issue in the owners manual. First I don't need the car to tell me how to shift that's just irritating. But more importantly I don't really want the 1st to 4th message flashing on the info center I think that's distracting. I could see this annoying the crap out of me, if it can't be disabled I might go back the auto even though the GG tax is $2,600 for the auto.

just install the skip shift eliminator man. It's around $10 and allows you to shift wherever you want whenever you want. I don't even notice the message anymore on the screen to be honest.

Disabled my SS skip shift the first day I owned the car with a 24 cent resistor from Radio Shack. I've done it to about 6 Tremec equipped cars I've bought.

All you need is a skip shift module, $10/15 or so, or a 2.2K ohm 1/2 watt resistor from Radio Shack. They both do the same thing. The Shack has them for $1.19 for a pack of 5.

Has it been confirmed that the ZL1 has skip shift? I know it was used to help with fuel economy numbers on the SS, but the ZL1 is already in GG territory. Does the manual 6 speed CTS-V have skip shift?

Does anyone know for sure this is true for the ZL1 model?

Get what you want. I only saw the skip shift 2-3 times a week (it has pretty specific parameters before it is engaged).

This little guy (http://www.apex-speed.com/apex-motor...ator-8001.html) has taken care of it entirely for me. It also took longer to jack the car up than to install. If you don't want to do it yourself just get your local oil change place to do it for you. Use the Skip9 (if it still works, also not sure if it's supposed to be all caps or not, try a few combinations) coupon code to get it for 16.95 with free shipping.

Thanks, that makes total sense. It had no place on this car for sure!

It rarely shows up on mine.

But the skip shift eliminator should be able to solve that problem.

Avoiding a multi thousand dollar gas guzzler tax. When it can be defeated with a 24 cent resistor and 15 minutes of crawling under the car, I'll take it every time.
