More info
The chain broke because the cam is seized in the block.
Now chasing the cause of that.

This is a new one on me.

EDIT: nope the cam was not seized in the block, thank goodness! only spring pressure keeping us from rotating it.

Seriously? IDK if I've ever even heard of that. I mean it's plausible (obviously) I've just never heard of it.

Definitely in for updates.

this is what I'm thinking

I did not see a drop in pressure, although I was not staring at the gauge the whole time.
I am wondering if cavitation can cause something like this, although when oil supply is an issue, my feelings are that the main and rod bearings seem to go first...........

to be continued

If cavitation is a problem this is the company I mentioned earlier... http://www.improvedracing.com ... you probably know of them already though. The name hit so I figured I'd share.

Are you still stock?

My neighbor has 13 1Le, Night fury, Cold air inductions with a cold air channeler, and pfadt headers. His car is pretty bad ass. He dynoed 487RWHP and just those three mods with my fat butt(300lbs) the other were single drivers) in the car with him we beat a GT-R, Audi R8 V10 version, and a Camaro ss with a LS9 Cam, heads, Kooks, and CAI, I took a 150 shot for the camaro to pull him and it wasn't by much. All these races were 50 or so rolling starts. I have heads, cam, and SC and his car pulls me I eventually over take him but most races are over quick and his car jumps and pull most by that time its over.. I can see this car having a huge advantage coming out of corners on a road course..

I can't believe there isn't some type of additive that can be added for the road courses and tracks for starving engine under hard Gs..

got the heads off and the cam was not stuck.............the journals were pretty scored and the lobes have a LOT of wear. 22k on the cam
so back to square one, what caused the chain to break?

my WAG-1: cam lobes were going away and generated metal--> causing the cam to momentarily seize and break the chain
WAG-2: the stock chain just couldn't handle the cam (222/242 .624/.625 116) and the springs (BRT .660)

nothing exotic about the set up.......... a random occurrence perhaps?
