V6 vs V8

I find that hard to believe unless you are barley tapping the pedal, and with a manual that's hard lol. Below are my mpg's from my ss and zl1.

2012 SS got 12.3 mpg

2015 ZL1 gets 9.8 mpg

Its all about how many smiles you get per gallon, not how many miles. The world muscle car and mpg should not be in the same anything

I'm avg 18.2mpg w/ my 1LE... most of my miles are hwy... and sitting in traffic... and I do drive aggressively.

Alright now that I've driven both, I will explain the driving difference:

-Steering on v6 feels heavy, V8 is light but fun to move around
-V6 doesn't get much low end power but transmission feels smooth, V8 transmission is more aggressive and violent
-Pressing throttle on V6 it doesn't want to move unless you press harder , V8 begs you to push and when you do it's a very nice rush, the thing will get you anywhere on the road easily
-Suspension on SS is better, absorbs bumps better, handles a bit better
-The two engines sound different, V6 has a nice whine to it , V8 has powerful sound , both nice
......

If you can get V8 go with it. It gets similiar mpg but much more fun and the torque really makes a difference. On my V6 if I want to overtake or move around quickly I need to press throttle hard enough for it to downshift, in V8 it doesn't need to downshift it has that power at low rpm. To answer your question, there is a hhuge difference in power. It feels very different. Power anywhere anytime you want in any gear.

A V6 engine still need secondary dynamic balancing. A V8 (4 stroke) is the least number of cylinders that are dynamically balanced without extra considerations. V8 gives much smoother delivery of power and faster response to throttle. Smaller engines do not necessarily give better fuel economy. Driver style and lack of power play an important part in achieving good fuel mileage.

In my experience I went from a v6 to a cammed v8 and it's like mercury to Pluto haha it's that crazy I went for a 1Le too so it's crazy balanced when I whip it around. Gas mileage isn't even that less too from a v6 to v8 I think I only lost 50-70 miles a tank.

I've had both. Recently traded my 2010 2LT. It had 91k miles on it when I traded it and each mile was fun. I had the SOLO CAT back on it and CAI and LOVED the way it sounded. It's louder than my 2SS with the Borla ATAK and CAI. The ride is softer in the V6 and more comfortable. I like the stiffness of the SS, but you gotta want that as it is a bit rough on streets. The V6 is a great Camaro and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone that wants a few more MPG, great looks, and still great performance. The SS is a blast and I'm glad I got one. I love the sound of the V8, but with it was louder.

Both are great cars and you can't go wrong. Anyone who slams the V6 is someone that doesn't know and is purely fanboi V8.

I'm in the process of trading in my 2014 1LT camaro (positive) thats why I justified the trade. Driving the V6 is fun and satisfied me for a little bit but driving the V8 during the test drive scared me a little bit.

Or, buy a v6, throw Nitrous on it and have the mpg/drivability of a v6 and enough power on nitrous to beat most v8 with simple boltons !!

It's like going from a modded V8 to a stock V8. You're like WTF happened to my power?

And about the V6 makes as much HP as the earlier model V8s, that is true. But the earlier V8 Camaros were lighter (around 3500 lbs).

That's one of the main reasons the new (6th gen) V6 Camaro is so much faster. They put the Camaro on a major diet.


Also, as mentioned, you'll never get that classic V8 muscle car sound out of the V6. Two V6 Camaros raced by me and I couldn't believe how quiet they were.

The V6s have a Ferrari sound going on. The V8 has the cop attracting loudness and when i was younger that was great because there weren't as many cops, plus tickets and insurance were cheaper. Times change and nowadays i'll take the Ferrari.

I average 18.x mpg around town and 32.x on the highway.

And i can't say that i'd ever describe the ride of a V6 as smooth and comfy, unless your comparing it to a dump truck.
