Battery Vent Tube

Ive searched - see

LOL

Asking for info and even opinions...does the vent tube have to be on a certain side of the battery?

I had to replace my Delco and I put back the vent tube to the positive side of the battery. There was also a hole where the tube couldve went on the negative side as well. Does it matter?

The length of the tube suggests/appears to set it on the positive side.

While searching it seems that a few had the tube on the negative side...but most seem on the positive side.

I have a L99 if it matters...thanks in advance

It does not matter which side the tube is on. It's purpose is to allow the corrosive acidic gases to vent somewhere. This happens when the altenater is charging the battery sulfuric acid in between the lead plates boil off.

If the other side is ACTUALLY vented, make sure you plug that hole.
Some have a "hole" in one side that doesn't actually DO anything. That being said, make sure the side your vent tube is stuck in is actually vented.
