JBL MS 8.

Has anyone installed a JBL MS 8 in a camaro using the factory head unit. I'm curious what the results were if you have.. I'm thinking that this may be the route I take when upgradeing..

I have done it and the results are good. I also have a subwoofer installed in my car with an Alpine amp powering it as well.

The MS-8 really brings more life out of the stock speakers. The biggest advantage of the MS-8 is the 32 band EQ it features. Huge difference in the sound.

I have it along with amps, sub and components. It's very easy to set up and the results are amazing.

I'm assuming you all are using the factory radio. Do you have any problems with turn on pops or noise of any kind using this unit. I want to build a syatem using this unit and the factory player..

Whoa whoa is the MS-8 out? I was at the Harman Facilities when this piece was in testing. Andy Whemeyer did a demo is a dodge neon. This piece changes what car audio is all about. Takes any and I mean any system and makes it sounded amazing.

I want! I'm calling the guys at JBL tomorrow.

I am using the stock HU. I do not have any turn-on pop or noise. I am not sure where the turn-on is connected to, but they told me its from the stock amp (I have the Boston Accoustics.) I do know that the speaker outputs from the BA amp are connected to the high level inputs on the MS-8 and I believe the MS-8 senses when there is signal on those inputs and turns on.

I installed the MS-8 with Alpine PDX amps, JL Audio comp in doors and rear deck, and Alpine T10 Type R shallow mount subs. Sounds great. Had turn off pop, but did some tweaking and it went away. You will love it once you get it set to your preferences.

No, you are not required to use their control. You CAN use their control which has volume, tone and balance controls as well as a 31 band EQ.
I have the MS-8 volume at -15 and the tone at 0 for bass, treble and mid and I use the volume and tone controls on my HU (the stock one) for everything. Their controller comes with a little remote control that is pretty cool, so if you have room to mount their display somewhere you can use the remote.

ciandrew, so you are saying it is not even required to permanetely mount the ms-8 display? Does the processor make that much of a difference? I have a jl audio hd600/4 and 750/1. Where is your ms-8 processor mounted?

My processor is in the trunk, along with the amps and the controller is in the centre console but not mounted. I only used it for the setup. Depending on your preferences, you may spend much more time playing with the EQ so you may use it more.

Can you take a picture of it by chance? And also does the controller have to be plugged in for it to function, or can you do the initial setup and then unplug it?

According to the JBL literature the display screen can be removed after set up is done if you like. You do not have to permanently mount it. The only thing is you have to plug it in if you want to change settings..
