I ordered my 2SS/RS with LS-3 March 10th of 2009 and took delivery on July 31st at 7:30am. During the ordering process, the only option for sound system was upgrading to the 9 speaker Boston Accoustic system, the subwoofer upgrade wasn't available yet. As far as the amp, the car has a factory amp installed already. It is located in the trunk on the left side under the molding. I am not sure if there is another amp to get other than after-market if you order the subwoofer kit.

Do not buy factory option upgrades as not worth theoney. The Boston system is worthy but you can get a much better setup using other aftermarket subs sand amps. Check ******** on here for camaro specific options. I got a custom box with a jl 12w7 and amp setup and sounds awesome with Boston system.

I listened to one of another customer at the dealership, definately not worth the dinero. I got my audio integrations setup and love it, sounds way nicer, and looks the factory part. I'll post up some pics soon.

aesthetically, I'd have to see it to be worth the $. Can definitely use a 'better' set-up that's cheaper.

Too far? You can just order them and put them in yourself. Not that hard. Also there's at least 1 very good DIY thread with pictures!

Actually Factory sub is good
I work at the dealership and we have a factory dealer installed MTX sub installed on a Camaro. Number one its a simple plug and play system. Takes all the strain off the front speakers and lets them do there job while the sub takes care of all the bass. The box its self is very nice quility, black hard plastic, bolts down in the back of the trunk up real close to the pass thru. (which you do lose the pass thru) however you hardly lose any trunk space and the fit and finish is excellent. The sub does have a custom matched 200watt amp and cross over built-in too. The speakers actually have a black metal grill to protect the speakers as well. Dealer installed also comes with 3yr/36,000 mile warranty too.
Sure there are better systems, but there generally not plug and play and do you really want someone pulling your dash apart to get the factory radio out to connect a custom fitted system. I looked at JL Audio which is super nice but the sub box at Crutchfield for the Camaro is $849.00 plus the recommended amp is $999. plus wiring and installation. So for $1000 bucks plug and play, super nice fit and finish its not a bad system at all and makes a huge difference in how loud you can turn it up with distorting the speakers. B+ in my opion, not bad at all. |

The ******** system is VERY easy to install with pictures and instructions step by step to hook up amp. Everything is hooked up in the trunk as no wires must be run to actual radio so you don't have to worry with pulling dash apart as it isnt necessary. Yes 1 Sub is more than enough if you want to hear lyrics at all. I have 1 JL 12W7 installed and the bass is only halfway and sounds awesome with Boston Accoustic system. If you turn bass up it blurs your vision but if this is what you want, it can be done. ******** has boxes for more than 1 sub also but I personally think it is overkill. I highly recommend you call Steve at ******** and talk to him and tell him exactly what you want and he can get you setup and if you have any issues, he is only a phone call away to answer all your questions and help with install if you need it.
