My thought is he hurried to buy the car, never knew what his Credit Score was and now he is paying more due to his Low Credit Score when the dealership actually pulled his Credit Rating

some people DO want the fluff though. Accessories, warranties etc. I put 100K zero deductible GMPP on my wife's new car. It's nice to know that for 100K miles, we have it covered.

What a waste of time.

I'm bored, I think I'll write out a bogus post on a Camaro message board.

In 50 years of years of owning cars, they have given me trouble in the first 10,000 miles or they were sold before they gave me trouble. Some of my cars had between 150,000 and 200,000 mile when sold. So, I never saw the point in an extended warranty, except to make the dealer money. And to be truthful, most people get tired of their cars and trade them before the extended warranty kicks in.

Totally agree. Alot of people went out of their way to give this clown advice. This person should be banned from Camaro5.com for life.

When Mylink or some other electrical component fails after 36K, let me know how it goes. Powertrain doesn't cover as much as people think. If you can afford it- the warranty buys peace of mind and it's worth it to some people.

I think the problem is the extended warranty "gets sold" to lots of people and some of them aren't worth the paper they are written on.

Companies make good money on extended warranties, or they would not sell them. They aren't trying to sell it to you because they like you. Caveat emptor.

Conversely, sometimes I think I would be better off if I had never bought tools and just drove a Civic because being a "car guy" is not a cheap or easy hobby.

Everybody has their own comfort level with a warranty. Here's how I look at it.

An 5 year/100K extended warranty on a new GM car is really a 2 year or 64K warranty since new GM cars come with a 3 year/36K bumper to bumper warranty and a 5 year/100K power train warranty. The extended warranty starts the day you buy it, that's why they cost more to buy two years down the road than it does when you purchase the vehicle. For the cost of an extended warranty, I'll just self insure for that two years.

Except that the factory-warranties ONLY COVER MANUFACTURER DEFECTS...As opposed to extended warranties, which [can] cover anything-and-everything, regardless of what caused it to go out...So no, it's not a 2/64...not even close...

For example...You're driving down the road, hit a pot hole, dent your rim, blow our your tire, and your navi stops working too, because something was 'bumped loose'...That is not covered by factory-warranty...You hit a pothole...you caused the damage...you pay to get it fixed.

I feel like a lot (most) of people don't even fully understand how these things work in the first place

First paragraph is fairly-accurate; I think you were talking about how dealers will 'sneak' them in to the deal, right? On to the next...

We actually will give a warranty to someone at-cost...if we have to...or sometimes even below, or even OCCASIONALLY for free - if we had to in order to get the deal...

The warranty companies pay us bonuses for penetration percentages on certain products...so we can take a loss here and there without too much trouble. Can we make money on them? Absolutely! My store, in particular, tends to be more of a "back-end" store, so about %75-%85 of people who purchase a vehicle here get something, whether that means we have to cut the front-end to get it in without changing their payments, or whatever else they do back there, but yea...
