1.5 ton jack or 2 ton?

Can I get by with the 1.5 or do I at least need the 2 ton?

I assume you will only be jacking up one wheel at a time? If so, 1.5 ton will do just fine.

1 ton = 2000lbs .... Camaro total weight is 4000lbs. 1.5 ton jack can handle 3000lbs.

Ya that's all I'll really need it for. I found a good deal on an aluminum one at harbor freight so I just wanted to make sure.

I have a 1.5, 2, and a 3 ton jack. All from harbor freight. The 1.5 for $70 is always a great deal and that is the one I take around for autocross events. So you're good one tire at a time.

My 2 ton is also aluminum but doesn't reach everywhere and my 3 ton is steel and never leaves my garage.

I use the 1.5 ton harbor freight aluminum low profile.

It works perfectly.
just use jack stands!

I just bought the 2 ton aluminum from Harbor Freight. The reason I got the 2 ton was the longer reach. I was worried at first, if it was going to reach, but no problems. I was putting my car on jack stands and removing all four wheels. I also love the 40+ pounds of the aluminum vs the 100+ pounds of the steel jacks.

As Neptune says...use jack stands! I had a cheap RV 2.5 ton floor jack fail this winter. This was before I could even get the stands under the Van I was working on. Luckily I wasn't under it. It busted some engine parts on the way down. $$$'s This thing won't even lift any more. Spend the extra dollars and get a good one. Your life may depend on it.
