Remote Start M6 Retrofit/Hack?

Anyone found a way to install the remote start system in a manual transmission camaro? Every manual vehicle I have owned, I have left parked in neutral, surely there's a way to bypass the security sensor or wire it to the neutral position? Any input would be appreciated.

I imagine the factory system would work. There's bound to be a "brain" that has to be installed and plugged into the factory harness. The key would be to find the wire that tells the "brain" that the car is in "Park." Since you have a M6, you'll need to trick this into happening, maybe the computer is looking for a ground or a certain voltage, you'd need to be a little crafty but im sure it could be figured out. As long as you dont mind relying on the parking brake solely. I personally like to leave my car in gear. As I've noticed my parking brake is already in need of adjustment.

Personally I think it's asking for trouble putting a remote start on a manual... All it takes is once! Local shop had a car in for service and someone did the remote start while it was in gear... fair amount of damage!

I actually owned a 1986 Jeep and back then Jeep did NOT have a safety switch on the clutch... took it in for service and a shop guy started it in gear without the clutch pushed in... Jeep took off across the shop and smashed both fenders! Luckily no was was hurt or worse! (I did get a new Jeep out of the deal! LOL)

May be more trouble than it's worth. Would just be nice to run the ac in the afternoon prior to getting in the car.

There has to be a way where you can have it disabled if the car is in gear. I want this too....

It's been HOT here in SA and having the AC run a few minutes b4 entering would be awesome... Sometimes I wish I would have gone auto just for that. And being able to text while driving... jk. haha

I think you would be out of your rabbid ass mind to try this on a manual. I see many problem that would happen. You know their's is a reason why they don't sell it from the factory.

The car knows what gear its in. (think skip shift)

It should be to hard to wire a relay setup utilizing the stock sensors. If nothing else, you could have a pressure switch on the shifter so that it is on when the car is in neutral. Hook that up to a relay going to the remote starter's "park" indication. You can easily get all the parts in a radio shack. I think GM sells the remote start keyfob separately as well.

I did it on my 3000gt and STi. Never had an issue. I can draw up a generic wiring diagram at work tomorrow. I have not looked into the original remote start yet though.

They have systems that won't activate when the car is in gear...

Spoke to a local audio/security shop the other day and they said they wouldn't know where to start. Offered me an aftermarket option but for one, im not interested in carrying an additional fob and two you apparently have to go through a whole security ritual ( neutral, pump the brakes, flap the visors) each time you shut down the car in preperation for the next time you want to use the remote start feature.
