Just a note: The news is non-existent but Lake Charles and surrounding areas are still in a very bad way. Some places may not get power for months. I have sent supplies and Cars&Coffee is doing a donation event on Saturday. I haven't seen a word on the national news about what it is like in West Louisiana. Laura actually hit land as a very high category 4 storm. It was packing ~150MPH winds at landfall. Most storms drop to a Cat3 or so before land fall. Laura was very strong all the way up to Shreveport.

If you folks can help please do.

We were east of the hit by ~70 miles. Just enough.

Hi crew. Nothing new here; just perpetual Groundhog's day. No complaints though.

The only gripe I have is no cruises or car shows. Staying busy with puting in all new cameras and sensor lights. The neighbor hood was hit 2 weeks ago with vandels. So I decided to update my security. And have the hand guns all cleaned and ready if needed.

The wife and I have been doing homemade apple sauce. So far 18 quarts took 50 lbs. of apples so far. the last time we did this we put up 80 qts. lasted 4 years.

What is considered officially “old fart”?

Asking for an “Over the Hill” friend.

Cabin fever has finally got the best of me. I have done my best to plan a little trip out. I am kicking off a trip to Frederick, MD tomorrow. I am not doing any iron butt driving. I am planning on three days to get there with some times spent on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. The trip back is open-ended at this point. UV light, lots of PPE and several different disinfectants are getting loaded in a bit. I have another side trip planned to Gettysburg NMP. I haven't been in a few years and it is time for me to pound some hallowed ground. A couple of friends will be meeting me at the park and we are looking at a Louisiana Tigers Day 1 review. If this tickles any fancy of any of you folks, Scott Mingus wrote a very good book on The Louisiana Tigers and The Gettysburg Campaign. Scott is a really good guy.

My understanding was that an old fart is any fart that has been lingering in your speedos for more than an hour.

Back in the house. Gettysburg was great! My friends were great! My car just finished getting detailed. It looks fine. ~2,650 miles and 23 MPG. Here are some thoughts that I had on my two radar detectors.

I just thought that I'd offer up a quick impression of my unscientific evaluation of both the Uniden R7 and the Redline 360C. I just returned from a ~2,600 mile road trip to Frederick, Maryland and a bit further north to Gettysburg.

The R7 seems to have a bit more range (this is a hare's breath type of measurement). The lack of a known GPS database and the fact that you manually have to lockout false alerts is a bit more work. The Uniden seems to be a bit more chatty, too. In city congestion, I found it to be a distraction.

The Redline was very easy to get used to. Since I am coming from a Max II, this was to be expected. The database helped with some of the noise in congested areas. The fact that it auto-learned was very helpful in Frederick. In the crowded North East, I found the Redline to be easier to live with. The Redline is the only one that had the opportunity to identify multiple threats (2).

Bottom line is that out West, I'll likely mount the Uniden for its greater range. However, in daily use, I will keep the Redline mounted.

These are just my opinions. I am not any type of authority. This is just having purchased both units in the last 30 days and setting off on a bit of a road trip.
