key getting stuck in ignition

Thinking it may be a harness issue or shifter issue. If I smack the shifter forward a bit the key will release, but sometimes it takes quite a bit of time. This is in a L99 auto 15 SS Camaro. Any ideas? Thanks

put the key forward again, shift out of park then back into park. Remove key.

In my case, the shifter had to be replaced. There is a solenoid that holds the ignition key in place; the shifter sends a signal to the solenoid to release the key. I was able to get around this for awhile by rowing the shifter through the gears until the key released but that eventually stopped working. Graphite would not solve the issue if this is the cause. Some people have just disconnected the solenoid instead. Most of the details around options are in the thread linked above.

This is what I believe is going on here. May start with the harness. Ive seen that fail as well. Thanks

Either replace the shifter assembly or remove the electrical plug from the interlock solenoid at key cylinder. The shifter assembly wears and no longer contacts the switch for the key interlock in park.

Had same problem. It’s the shifter solenoid. Had to start the car again and shift out and back into park. Should be a TSB but not sure.

Ive read about just unplugging the solenoid. Was curious if something like this could potentially allow the key to be removed while in drive? If so this could cause an extremely unsafe situation. Any of you that have done this, maybe try and see if the key pulls out while the engine is running and the vehicle is in drive. Thanks
