Rubber strip came off right rear window

Hey all, the rubber weather seal strip on the leading edge of my right rear window (I have a vert) came off about a month ago. I took it to a dealer and they said they’d have to replace the whole window cuz it comes as one piece and would cost several hundred dollars.

So I used some super glue and glued the rubber strip back on the window instead to see if that would work. It seemed to be holding great and everything was fine for about a month. Well yesterday I went to put the top down and when the rear window went down automatically the rubber strip came off again.

Should I try regluing it again? If so, what’s the best glue for glueing rubber to glass? Or should I just bite the bullet and have the dealer replace the entire window? Any other ideas?

Maybe try an RTV urethane adhesive like the kind they use for windshields might hold better.

Also, I'd research whether or not the rubber trim can be purchased separately. Many times in the past, I've had the dealer tell me the same thing only to find out that the part I wanted was indeed available without buying the whole assembly.

I'm not saying this is the case with your situation though, but just saying.

A glue that dries real hard like superglue or gorilla glue is not what you want. I'd go with what gringo said or a silcone adhesive. Walmart has some clear GE in a small 2oz tube in the caulking section for about $3

As others have said, an RTV polyurethane designed for windshields would be your best shot at fixing it. You could even try using one of the kits designed to glue rearview mirrors to the windshield. You can pick either up at your local auto parts store.

My weather strip also came off. There's actually a TSB for it. I tried using a 3M weather stripping adhesive which held for a little bit, but eventually came off. Last year I bought a new piece of rubber which I thought I read somewhere had an adhesive strip to it, but it did not. The new rubber is a different design though and appears to grip the window better. I put it on without any adhesive for shits and giggles and it hasn't moved.

Wow, hate to bring up an old thread, but this exact situation happened to my vert last week. I can’t find the single rubber piece for the life of me. Called the dealer, they basically thought I was speaking Chinese. They’re 40 miles from me, so a trip is a ways alway.

Anyone know the name of these dam pieces on the rear small vert windows?

Not completely sure about the verts but I think they are like coupes, with that being said I think it is part of the window not just a single piece.

they are part of the window: Passenger Side Quarter Window - GM (22829814)
and maybe use this: 3M Auto Glass Urethane Windshield Adhesive, 08693, Medium Viscosity, High-Strength, Fast-Curing, 310 mL/10.5 fl oz Cartridge , white

I would use Kent Automotive Quick Seal™ Seam Sealer Black P/N P10556. I’ve used it for other stuff adheres really well.
