Get a Jeep XJ/ZJ

i.e. A Jeep cherokee and jeep grande cherokee.

They can be had for really cheap (I picked mine up for a little over $1,000). The 4.0 6-cylinder in them is known to last forever. It has 4wd. They are cheap to work on/fix.

Oh yea coz that's when the rocks that they put in the winter started to come out and will be flinging to your car as you drive through the highway,

Got my first out from the dealer this summer ha! lol

+1 I have a 2001 grand cherokee limit with every opt 87,000miles and only paid $6,000. So I sure you could get a pretty good one in the range your looking at.

+2. I just bought a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (fully loaded)for $1450.00 off Craigslist and it is perfect in every aspect. There are plenty of them around so replacement parts are cheap and they are easy to work on. Now my Camaro will spend winters inside - unlike last year (for the record, the Camaro was horrible in the winter last year, even with 19" all seasons((I have since put on factory 20" since no more winter duty)) Rob

A 2k-3k car is going to be very by-individual-car specific because your looking for gold amongst a whole bunch of bricks. At that price I'd be looking for a late model 3800 series Buick though because they are dirt cheap and so you can be slightly selective and get to the 3k mark. That particular engine is very well sorted and easy to get parts for.

1998 Cadillac Deville. Very reliable from personal experiance. Those cars are F***ing fast! 325 Hp in those 298ci Northstar V8's! Full sec faster than a vic to 60.

+1, the 3800 series engines are bullet proof. Buicks tend to spend their formative years pampered by people who actually do the proper service to their vehicle.

CHerokee and grand Cherokees are both great, as is the Subarus. Might want to look into a 2000-2004 Dakota with the 4.7 V8 as they are getting real affordable and wil go and go.
