Saying Goodbye to my 2010 RS #3434
It's been a tough summer on my 2010 2LT RS - @58,500 miles the Engine Control Module went - $830. bill; then the dreaded P0008 Engine Bank 1 code meant my Timing Chain required replacement @ 59,285 miles - $1,433. With perhaps new rotors/pad, cat-back replacement and whatever else declines on a 10 year car it was time to say goodbye. She was traded in on Saturday for of all things a Plug-in Hybrid (time to starting touring the country in retirement). I feel shame but will get over it...
Here she is on her last day at home, with her 1st Place Best Gen-5 Camaro 2009 and 3rd Place 2010 trophies from the NJ F-Body Owners Association (NJBOA meets. I'll miss her and all the mods added including Pfadt coil-overs (plus all of Pfadt's other suspension mods(, CAI from Cold Air Inductions; and so much more.) I want to thank the Moderators and all members of Camaro5.com for all the help, advice, controversy and fun this group provided since I joined in May 2009 just as I was buying her, #3434 off the Oshawa line. Through 3 Builders & Buyers Oshawa Meet and Greets - thanks Hylton, Scott & Mike Judge and all the friends we made in Oshawa and St Catherines - and NJBOA meets - its been a permagrin ride from beginning to end. She helped me through 5 years of commuting, and 5+ years of semi and full retirement. I sent her off with her trophies and a set of notes on all mods and major servicing so the next owner has a feel for what she's made of and how she was kept. Dealer agreed to keep them with the car. I'll be around camaro5 a bit longer as I try to sell some parts in the Local Marketplace in NJ/NY. Enjoy your rides, stay well and always be kind...tjd24 - Tom

When it comes time to part ways it's still difficult. On August 30th I parted with my 1996 Impala SS that I have owned since new. Spent more money than I could ever get in return. Sold her for 24K, the wife was happy. On the other hand I nearly cried when she left the driveway for the last time. Sad part is the gent that purchased her does not have a garage, she must now rest outside. Thank God she no where around so I don't have to witness her decline.

I know how hard it can be to let go of car you've put a lot of work and time into, not to mention enjoyed .. one of those, been there, done that things. Enjoy your retirement and touring the country .. a lot of great sites and places to see and enjoy.

Too bad the dealer will probably throw away everything you left for the next owner.

Dealer agreed to leave everything in the car given the mods - I have to stop by on Wednesday so you know I'll check...

That seems pretty routine maintenance stuff - with the exception of maybe the ECM. Sounds more like you had grown tired of it after so long. But I get it. Enjoy retirement!

I wasn't tired of the car, tired of putting money into it with more costs on the horizon. Thanks!

I know the early V6's had timing chain problems, but I wonder what caused the engine control module to go bad?

Man, you’re scaring me! Sounds like I’m in the same boat. I hate flying but I want to see the country and my SS and other car are gas guzzlers, so I’m looking for something good on gas to road trip in around the country. I just took a trip to NYC and all I saw on the road were a bunch of small SUVs packed to the roof with both young and old drivers, driving Kias, small Nissans and Hondas with names I’ve never heard of before. On both the trip out and return I saw very few Camaros, Mustangs, etc.
All my other toys are paid for so it may come down to a hard choice very soon. I’m just now starting to get the thing sorted out (new suspension) and now I’m really enjoying it but unfortunately it would be the first thing to go if things get tight.

No warning on the ECM. I was backing out of my garage & it just died - no turning over or clicking. Service said good thing I was home as if driving I’d have lost all power & coast to side of road. No explanation on why but they said they do a few ECMs a year on different GM models. I did get $125.credit for the core exchange.

Oh man... one of the original originals here.
My R6P car was the hardest one to give up. Hope you do stick around here though. Best of luck in retirement. |

My '10 SS is just over 10 years old. Besides routine maintenance I've only needed
one tail lamp bulb. That's it. I paid $40,000 out the door. It's now worth about $20,000. I plan on keeping it and even if little things start too go, I'll just fix them. I love the fact that this car still turns heads wherever I go. Maybe it's just me.
