Anyone in the Tampa area heard about Sunshine Speedway being brought back to life? From what I heard, they will be racing around the oval by May. The state of Florida wasn't making any money and can't afford to build the expressway so they are rebuilding it to race.

I remember when it closed down in November 14th, 2004.

Yes I read last week and someone purchased the rights to a 5 or 10 year lease and was rebuilding it. He hoped to be racing in a couple weeks

Robert Yoho is going to renting the track for I think it was 5 years for $15,000 + some a month from the State of Florida. Some how, have the round track up and running by May 2012.

That is great news, I live really close to the track and used go to both the drags and the roundy-rounds all the time in my younger days, I can hear the sound at my house, I hear the drags sometimes on Wednesday or Friday nights, but it will be nice to hear the roar of the roundy-rounds on Saturday nights again.

If I do go, I won't take the Camaro, the tracks nickname is "Sandshine"
dirty entry & exit road, dirt return road for the drags and the roundy-round pits are sand & dirt and grass, except for a few concrete slabs that they allowed you to pour for your own pit back in the day.
