Georgia Smog Check
To all who is from Georgia. I am planning to retire there and have a question for you. I know Georgia requires smog but what do they check for? The reason is that I have a 13 1LS/RS with SOLO HFC and Corsa cat-back exhaust. Will they fail you if they notice the HFC or do they just put a meter in your tail pipe and see if it meets smog standards? Any help is appreciated.

Depends to where in Ga you retire. So Atlanta has Smog Tests on Cars, But most of south Ga does not.

OK, well for right now we are looking at Cleavland or Gainsville or Northern, we like the mountains and trees.

If you're not throwing any check engine lights, you'll be fine regardless where in ga you go.

Thanks, I appreciate it very much. Wasn't sure how strict they are with aftermarket parts. No CEL's either.

They dont do emissions up there, its only in the metro counties.

I'll find out soon. I have Solo HFC's and Flowmasters. No CEL's for me though so I should be fine.

For the counties that do test it's a simple OBD II scan to make sure all systems are functioning properly in the computer. "Some" guys will do a visual check to see if cats are on the car, but that's it. There is no sniffer in Georgia for anything newer than 1996.  If you decide to move down, we're not that far from Gainsville. Swing by sometime and check out the place. |
