I'm not sure if you are missing something here or not....but the point I am trying to make is that, the ZL1's main competition is the GT500, there are quite a few people on here who think the ZL1 is going to base MSRP at around 65K.
The point I am making is that 65K is about 10K TOO MUCH and there are other cars with the same type of performance to be had for less, eg GT500 and the Corvette GS Edit: Even the CTS-V can run high 11's BONE STOCK with an experienced driver.

I wouldn't worry about a measily 40 more HP than the ZL1. It may weigh more or not get the power to the ground as good so theoretically the ZL1 will be faster in a straight line and probably around the corners. I'd like to see Ford go the the "RING" and post times...I wonder why they have never tested there. That should tell you something right there .

Does the Mustang even have launch control? I know the 2010 "SUPER SNAKE" has over 750 HP and over 550lbs of torque which costs more than a GT500 and has more horsepower gets a 0-60 time of only 4.1 sec in almost every magazine (same as standard GT500) which is likely due to the traction issues. The new 2012 Super Snake is said to have similar performance numbers and can be easily beefed up to 800 HP from the factory with a simple mod and will likely only drop a 10th in 0-60 times.

So claiming more HP is just a bragging right...the ZL1 or any other car can easily cause you to get kicked in the nuts from one stop light to another or around a road course...

If you had read through these posts, you would know that the GT500 had been at the Nurburgring several months ago, and that they are most likely waiting for the ZL1 to post its numbers before Ford finalizes the 2013 GT500

i will be surprised if its 65k. I'm thinking 50-55k will all options. if it is 65k then i can see competition with a GS.

+1
There is always another car faster than the one you have. Anyway the GT500 still won't be able to turn. That is why the ZL1 is such a great car, not for HP alone, but for the all around drivability that it brings to the table. I still don't understand why everyone thinks the ZL1 is only about big HP. You have to look at the whole picture.

Thats the point I am trying to get across, I'm really not being a FordFanboy or anything, I'm trying to get people to realize this is a 50ish car.
I really hope to get one, I am a huge fan of the LS engines, but if the price is in the 60's I will be buying something else, and probably be faster anyway.

Yea and the ZL1 owners will just change pullies, add headers and tune and blow you away with no problem.

I must have missed that post(s) cuz I have read through stuff on here and remember reading the thread on the ZL1 ring times and there was no listing of any times by the GT500...I will eagerly await some times from the Mustang in the months to come ...

While some of the people on this board appear to be brand loyalists (which is fine), I am NOT one (for the record). Every car or bike I've owned was because it represented amazing value, technology, reliability and/or performance at the time; for that I have remained an enthusiast and a supporter of many specific brands (Chevy, Ducati, BMW) but if the competition happens to make something better that year and I am in the market I will buy it--plain and simple. Hate me if you want, but I'm a realist and I want the "BEST FOR LESS!"

I'm not hating on you at all dude, that was my point.
I won't pay 65K for a ZL1 when the GT500 is going to come right back up its ass in the low 50's

So you are saying that for 10K I can get 900 RWHP and be reliable with 100,000 mile 5 year warranty? NOT! I know for a fact that it cost about 14,000 dollars to get a whipple and cam installed on a stock L99 and have 630 RWHP or so. I have seen it in some of our club member's cars. You are also missing the fact that the ZL1 comes with more than just a blown motor.

Wasn't it you that just said you would do a pulley swap and a tune on the ZL1?
I'm pretty sure that would void your 5 year 100K warranty anyway....Soooooo what was your point with that?

I heard the GT500 ran an unofficial time of 7.35. Either way IMO they are both awesome choices.

Do you think that there won't be dealer markup on those when they come out? The dealers are still marking up the GT500s that they have now. I just saw two of them on the showroom floor at a dealership when I brought my work truck in for service and one was marked up 5K and the other was 7K OUCH.
